FoxNews.com reports that
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo may have just handed Republicans a ready-made campaign ad for his rumored 2020 presidential bid – by declaring Wednesday that America “was never that great.”
The Democratic star made the seemingly offhand remark as part of his rebuke of President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan during a bill-signing in New York. But the line drew gasps from the crowd.
“We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great,” Cuomo said, to an awkward blend of gasps and chuckles.
“We have not reached greatness, we will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged, we will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone and every woman’s full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution,” he said.
Within hours, his spokeswoman tried walking it back. “The Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality. America has not yet reached its maximum potential,” Cuomo’s press secretary, Dani Lever, said in a statement. “When the President speaks about making America great again – going back in time – he ignores the pain so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized women’s contributions. The Governor believes that when everyone is fully included and everyone is contributing to their maximum potential, that is when America will achieve maximum greatness.”
But the “never that great” line tore through social media in a New York minute, as journalists and his political rivals seized on the remark.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro said America, “with its imperfections, has always been great” and called on Cuomo to apologize.
“This governor is so determined to distract voters from his failed policies and corrupted administration that he’s willing to dismiss the steady, determined march of the American people, making and remaking the greatness of America. Mr. Cuomo owes the nation an apology,” he said in a statement. “He should be ashamed of himself.”
Cuomo for months has been positioning himself as one of the biggest gubernatorial foes of the Trump White House. He also is facing a primary challenge from the left from actress and activist Cynthia Nixon.
If Cuomo wants to run for President, as President Trump has suggested, he’s off to a heck of a start, isn’t he?
If an old-fashioned Democrat from decades ago, like Tip O’Neil, Scoop Jackson, or Hubert Humphrey, had been in attendance at that bill-signing, they would have backhanded the ungrateful so-and-so.
Back in the day, Democrats weren’t that different than the “Moderate” Republicans of today.
In the Political Climate of today, John Fitzgerald Kennedy would have been a part of the “Bush Wing” of the Republican Party.
The Democrats of the past generation to which I am referring would not recognize the Democratic Party of today.
The Democratic Party of today are the radicals of yesterday.
Look at their Chairman, Tom Perez. He is a radical Hispanic Activist who is as Far Left as they come.
This shift in the Democrats to the Far Left began with Bill and Hillary Clinton.
While Bill took great pains to present himself publically as a Moderate Democrat, everyone knew that behind the scenes, Hillary was a radical and the private power behind the public persona of Bill.
As a political wave of ex-hippies became ensconced in the Halls of Power in Washington, in both the Clinton and Obama Administration, they went about taking over the Democratic Party itself.
As they gained power, the Democrats grew more and more confident that their Far Left minority political ideology was actually that of the majority of Americans.
And then, the night of November 8, 2016 happened…and their bubble was burst.
The political victory of “outsider” Donald J. Trump completely blew the Democrats’ minds.
It turbocharged their rapid movement as a political party to the Far Left of the Political Spectrum.
Now, every American is watching as these nimrods embrace the failed political philosophy of Karl Marx in calling for American to become a “Democratic Socialist” country.
In their grief the Democrats have had a split with reality causing them to feel fee to say in public things that they used to only say to their peers in private.
Thus, Governor Cuomo’s statement that the Greatest Country on God’s Green Earth “was never that great”.
America has had many moments of greatness, too numerous for me to list here.
Men and women have given their very lives to make this Sovereign Nation the envy of the world.
My father jumped out of a perfectly good boat along with thousands of other brave Americans in an exhibition of unselfish bravery known forever as “D-Day”.
He was one of the lucky ones. He came home.
Governor Cuomo, if you truly believe what you blurted out at that bill-signing, then I suggest that you move a country where those in power feel the same way you do.
May I suggest Iran?
Until He Comes,
