Why the “Roseanne” Revival is a Hit

untitled (232)

“I think we need to converse more, but more than anything we need to get involved and run our government for ourselves instead of sitting back and wanting somebody else to do it. Even voting isn’t enough. You have to be involved. I talk about this with my grandkids – you have to get in there and get your hands dirty if you want things to go the way you want them to go. We’re lucky in this country that we can do that. We can really get our hands dirty and put our big collective shoulders to the wheel and change and fix things. I think that’s what’s exciting about our country right now.” – Roseanne Barr

Deadline.com reported yesterday that

Roseanne made a triumphant return last night, blowing past projections with a 5.2 adults 18-49 rating and 18.2 million total  viewers for the debut of its revival, which drew 10% more viewers than the original series finale 21 years ago.

While nostalgia was expected to bring in eyeballs, no one predicted such a huge turnout on premiere night for the blue-collar family sitcom with a Donald Trump-supporting protagonist, especially among the younger demographic. But then, few also predicted that Trump would become the Republican nominee and would win the Presidential election when he first announced his candidacy.

Both Trump and Roseanne were able to tap into the often overlooked and underserved working-class audience. Not surprisingly, the top TV markets where Roseanne delivered its highest ratings were in states handily carried by Trump during the 2016 Presidential election. No.1 was Tulsa in Oklahoma, which Trump won with 65.3% of the vote. It was followed by Cincinnati, Ohio and Kansas City, Missouri. The only big city from a blue state in the Top 10 was Chicago at No. 5 — that is the area where the series is set. ABC focused some of its marketing efforts in the region with a preview of the revival at the 54th Chicago International Film Festival.

The top market of the country, New York, was not in the Top 20; No.2 Los Angeles was not in the Top 30. And yet, Roseanne delivered the highest demo rating for a comedy telecast in 3.5 years, since the fall 2014 season premiere of The Big Bang Theory.

There no doubt was an element of nostalgia and curiosity about how the characters have changed and about the new generation of the Conners. But Roseanne went beyond that. Its youngest 18-49 viewers when the series originally aired on ABC from 1988-1997 are now at the very top or outside of the ad-friendly demographic, in which last night’s premiere posted a staggering 5.2 Live+same day rating with no lead-in. It came largely from new viewers who were children or not even born during Roseanne‘s initial run.

Imagine that.

A series returning to television after a 20 year hiatus about a working class family living in a town in the Heartland of America, whose outspoken matriarch is an adamant Trump Supporter, kicked major behind in the ratings.

Who’d da thunk it?

Certainly not the Liberal Expert Television Programmers and Critics in Hollywood and New York.

You know them. They are the same geniuses who came up with the idea for the Rosie O’Donnell variety show, “Rosie Live”…that mercifully lasted for only one episode.

The same Liberals who are in shock over the ratings success of the return of “Roseanne” are the same ones who have been crying since November 8, 2016 because they did not get their way.

This epic meltdown by those who are paid handsomely to entertain us is a direct result of an isolated ignorance of average Americans’ desire to rid ourselves of those in the Halls of Power who told us repeatedly that they knew what was best for us and “who we were”, while their actual mission was to turn America into a Third-World Barrio in their quest to make us a Socialist Paradise.

All during the Presidential Campaign, the Democratic Party, along with those in “Showbiz”, through their minions in the Main Stream Media, assured us that it was a foregone conclusion that Hillary Clinton would be our 45th president.

There is a reason for that.

The Liberal Elite have always believed that our country revolves around the big metropolitan areas in the Northeast and in California. They have always looked down their noses at what they derisively call “Flyover Country”, the same area that many of us call the Heartland of America or simply “home”.

Just like their fellow Modern American Liberals who run the Democratic Party, the disconnected “dancing monkeys” in Tinsel Town and the Big Apple never saw Trump’s victory coming nor the ratings success of the returning “Roseanne”.

According to a Gallup Poll, published on January 16th, 2016, Conservatives are still the leading Political Ideology in America at 37%, followed closely by “self-described” Moderates at 35%. Liberals remain the Minority Political Ideology in America, comprising only 24% of our population.

Average Americans living in America’s Heartland are the reason that Donald J. Trump is our 45th President.

Roseanne Barr and the Producer of her program are both Trump Supporters.

They took a gamble and gave Americans what has been missing from Prime Time Television: a program that reflects the reality of what is actually happening in the homes of average Americans as they deal with the problems of their daily lives and the economic mess that Obama left our country in.

This hard slap to the face of the Hollywood Hoi Polloi has them reeling.

What I am wondering, though, is how long they will allow such a “heretical” show to stay on the air.

It takes the absurd notion that they have been peddling for years that Americans all share their Far Left Political Philosophy and knocks it on its hindquarters.

So, congratulations to the cast and crew of “Roseanne”.

And, watch your ”six”.

ABC doesn’t like it when you tell the truth…even when your show is popular.

Just ask Tim Allen.

Until He Comes,

KJ
