A Slaughter in Afghanistan

10 missionaries, including 6 Americans were brutally murdered after having what was to be their last meal at a picnic in the forest in the Sharrun Valley, high in the Hindu Kush mountains of northern Afghanistan.

The aid workers, six Americans, a Briton, a German and four Afghans, coming home from a three-week journey on foot to deliver free medical care to the remotest regions of the country,  had just finished eating when they were raided by gunmen with long dyed-red beards, the police said.

The gunmen marched them into the forest, stood them in a line and mercilessly shot 10 of them, one by one.

The Badakhshan Province police chief, Gen. Aqa Noor Kentoz said Saturday that the police found their bodies, seven men and three women, on Friday.

This slaughter, the largest massacre in years of aid workers in Afghanistan, offered chilling evidence of the increasing insecurity in the northern part of the country and added to fears that the insurgency has turned even more in vicious in recent months.

The Taliban proudly claimed responsibility for the killings, accusing the group of being spies and Christian missionaries.  Because of pressure in their traditional strongholds in the south and east by NATO forces, the Taliban have become more active in areas once relatively quiet, like Badakhshan Province.

They have recently begun using women and children as suicide bombers, and assassinating tribal elders. Now it appears they have the murdering of defenseless aid workers to their holy war in the name of Allah.   Aid workers in the past have often been free to work in both government and Taliban-dominated areas.

The police identified the group of doctors, nurses and technicians as working for the International Assistance Mission, a Christian aid group that has operated in Afghanistan since 1966.

Dirk Frans, the group’s executive director said:

All indications are this is probably our team.  They were on an optometric expedition, running an eye camp.

Mr. Frans confirmed that an Afghan man who survived the attack and later told his story to the police was the group’s driver.  And the local police identified the mission’s team leader, Dr. Tom Little of Delmar, N.Y., as one of the dead.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, claimed that the aid workers had ignored orders from a Taliban patrol to stop and were shot as they tried to flee. He said they discovered among their belongings a Bible in the Dari language widely spoken in Afghanistan, and maps showing Taliban positions in northern Afghanistan.

This weasel proclaimed:

They were not actually here to provide medication for people, but were here for spying.  The punishment for spying is death.

Mr. Frans originally said that he doubted the Taliban claim of responsibility, and said the police had told him the probable motive was robbery. However, the police proved his assumption wrong after interviewing witnesses and on Saturday were saying that the Taliban were responsible.

The accusations of spying or proselytizing, Mr. Frans said, were “out of the question.”

That would be against the laws of this country and the rules of our organization.  Although we are a Christian-supported charity, we would absolutely not proselytize.

He said all aid workers signed agreements not to divulge any information to governments or outside parties.

Mr. Frans said Dr. Little, a 61-year-old optometrist, had been working in Afghanistan for the past four decades and spoke fluent Dari.

Friends and family members said that Dr. Little and his wife, Libby, had reared three daughters in Afghanistan, weathered the Russian occupation and the civil war that followed, hid in his basement for months during Taliban rule, but kept on serving the people of Afghanistan, even after a rocket attack flattened one of his hospitals so he could not provide eye care for impoverished Afghans.

He was even thrown out of Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2001 during a crackdown on Christian aid organizations, but returned after the Taliban were overthrown later that year.

A British surgeon, Dr. Karen Woo, 36, was also among the dead, according to by her organization, Bridge Afghanistan.

Dr. Woo wrote on a fund-raising blog:

The expedition will require a lot of physical and mental resolve and will not be without risk.  The effort is worth it in order to assist those that need it most.

Dr. Woo was engaged to be married.  She recently had an Afghan tailor make her a ball gown out of raw silk.

Sadly,  she wrote in the last entry on her personal blog before she left on the latest mission:

I hear what you’re saying about priorities, and seriously, I probably shouldn’t be worrying about a ball gown right now, but still, what’s a girl to do?

The police commander said that the other women were an American and a German.  The International Assistance Mission is withholding their names until positive identification can be made.

Two of the Afghans were killed. A third, the driver, saved himself by reciting the famous verses from the Koran, “There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet,” He later told the police that the Taliban released him. The fate of the fourth Afghan remains unknown.

The missionaries set out three weeks ago to reach the northern corner of Nuristan Province, traveling by foot with pack horses to carry their medical equipment and hiking over a 16,000-foot pass into the roadless Parun Valley.

With the exception of the driver, retained for the group’s final leg by four-wheel drive, the personnel were medically trained, and there were three doctors among them, including a dental surgeon.

In addition to treating cataracts and other eye problems, they planned to conduct maternal and infant health and dental clinics in the valley, where about 50,000 people live.

According to the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief, an umbrella group for aid organizations, abductions and assassinations of aid workers have been mounting quickly in recent years. Five Doctors Without Borders workers were killed in 2004, and four International Rescue Committee workers were shot to death in a Taliban ambush in 2008.

According to Mr. Frans, his group had run many such expeditions, as recently as 2009, always at the invitation of local communities, with a local guide. Even so, four of its workers have been killed in three separate episodes.

He said the mission to Nuristan was told that there were no active Taliban in the area, although Afghan officials said the Taliban and other insurgent groups had been active in northern Nuristan and even across the border in Badakhshan.

The governor of Nuristan Province, Jamaluddin Badar, said the local police had escorted the expedition members as they left the province, but when they crossed into Badakhshan, they told the authorities they no longer wanted armed guards in their midst.

General Kentoz, the provincial police chief said:

They said we’re doctors and civilians and no one will bother us.

According to local residents, the red-bearded gunmen spoke the Nuristani dialect, which indicates that they probably were tracking the group. It is common in some parts of Afghanistan for older men to dye their beards with henna.

Ms. Little told family members in an e-mail that she last heard from the group on Thursday morning.  Her husband told her that their caravan of Land Rovers had been delayed trying to ford a flooded river.

Despite the slaughter of these missionaries, Mr. Frans said the organization would not be deterred from its work in Afghanistan:

We have worked here under the king, under the Russians, under the Communists, under the warlords and the Taliban.  Is it time to quit now?

The White House reaction?  **crickets**  The Obamas are too busy taking their four vacations in one month and, after all, Islam is the religion of peace.

What kind of faith does it take to serve the people of a foreign land for 30 years?

I want to leave you this Sunday with this promise:

 1 John 2:1

…And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Talk to Him.  He’ll listen.  Here’s some information you need to hear.  It’s the world’s shortest sermon.  God bless you and may God bless America…again.

The Floridian Al-Qaedaian

Only in America could a boy grow up to be…THE NUMBER THREE GUY IN AL QAEDA??!!

A suspected Al Qaeda operative who lived for more than 15 years in the U.S. has become chief of the terror network’s global operations.  The FBI says that this marks the first time a leader so intimately familiar with American society has been placed in charge of planning attacks.   Uh oh.

Miami-based FBI counterterrorism agent Brian LeBlanc told The Associated Press that Adnan Shukrijumah, 35, has taken over in the position at the Terrorist organization once held by 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was captured in 2003.  This position means that he will be communicating regularly with Al Qaeda’s senior leadership, including Osama bin Laden.

Shukrijumah and two other leaders were part of an “external operations council” that designed and approved terrorism plots and recruits, but his two cohorts were taken out in U.S. drone attacks, leaving Shukrijumah as the de facto chief and successor to Mohammed, his former boss.

According to LeBlanc, the FBI’s lead Shukrijumah investigator:

He’s making operational decisions is the best way to put it.  He’s looking at attacking the U.S. and other Western countries. Basically through attrition, he has become his old boss.

Shukrijumah has been in the FBI’s crosshairs since 2003.   They believe that he is the only Al Qaeda leader to have once held permanent U.S. resident status, or a green card.

Shukrijumah was named earlier this year in a federal indictment as a conspirator in the case against three men accused of plotting suicide bomb attacks on New York’s subway system in 2009.  The indictment signaled the first criminal charges against Shukrijumah, who previously had been sought only as a witness.

Shukrijumah has also been identified as playing a role in the plotting of potential Al Qaeda bomb attacks in Norway and a never-executed attack on subways in the United Kingdom, but LeBlanc said no direct link has been found.  LeBlanc also said that travel records and other evidence point to Shukrijumah doing research and surveillance in spring 2001 for a potential plot to disrupt commerce in the Panama Canal by sinking a freighter there.

Shukrijumah trained at Al Qaeda’s Afghanistan camps in the late 1990s.  He was labeled a “clear and present danger” to the U.S. in 2004 by then-Attorney General John Ashcroft.  The U.S. is offering a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture and the FBI also is releasing an age-enhanced photo of what he may look like today.

According to LeBlanc, it’s natural he would focus on attacking on the U.S:

He knows how the system works. He knows how to get a driver’s license. He knows how to get a passport.

Shukrijumah’s mother, Zurah Adbu Ahmed, lives in a small home in suburban Miramar, FL.  According to her, he frequently talked about what he considered the excesses of American society, such as alcohol and drug abuse and women wearing skimpy clothes, but that he did not condone violence.   But, she also said she has not had contact with her son for several years.

She said:

This boy would never do evil stuff. He is not an evil person.  He loved this country. He never had a problem with the United States.

Yeah, right.  He joined Al-Qaeda for the great benefits plan.

LeBlanc said that they brought these new charges against him because the New York subway bomb suspects identified him to investigators as their Al Qaeda superior.   The New York suspects also provided other key information about his Al Qaeda status.

LeBlanc said:

It was basically Adnan who convinced them to come back to the United States and do this attack.  His ability to manipulate someone like that and direct that, I think it speaks volumes.

Before embracing Jihad, Shukrijumah lived in Miramar with his mother and five siblings.  He excelled at computer science and chemistry courses while studying at community college.   He had come to South Florida in 1995 when his father, a Muslim cleric and missionary trained in Saudi Arabia, decided to take a post at a Florida mosque after several years at a mosque in Brooklyn, N.Y.

According to the FBI, at some point in the late 1990s,, Shukrijumah became convinced that he must participate in “jihad,” or holy war, to fight perceived persecution against Muslims in places like Chechnya and Bosnia.

He journeyed to training camps in Afghanistan, where he underwent basic and advanced training in the use of automatic weapons, explosives, battle tactics, surveillance and camouflage.

Brian Fishman, a counterterrorism research fellow at the New America Foundation said:

What’s dangerous about an individual that understands the U.S. is he may have a better sense of our security vulnerabilities and insights into how to terrify the American people using smaller attacks for large, political impact. This increases the risk of attacks outside traditional places we normally worry about like New York and Washington.

Shukrijumah was born in Saudi Arabia.  He is a citizen of Guyana, a small South American country where his father was born.  His father died in 2004.

While still in Afghanistan, he met another outstanding young American. Jose Padilla, an American citizen, was once suspected of plotting to set off a radioactive “dirty bomb”.  He is now, thankfully, imprisoned on a 2007 terrorism material support conviction in Miami.  Authorities discovered in their interrogations of Padilla and other Al Qaeda detainees that Shukrijumah and Padilla were paired in a plot to fill apartments in several high-rise apartment buildings with natural gas and blow them up, but they had a falling out.

LeBlanc said:

They just couldn’t get along. It’s like two guys that could not work together.

The FBI is still hopeful that they can bring charges in South Florida against Shukrijumah.  However,  key information about him was provided by Guantanamo Bay detainees such as Mohammed, whose use as a witness would be difficult.

 LeBlanc said:

For us, it’s never been a dry hole. It’s always been an active investigation and it’s global in nature.  We have never stopped working it.

A couple of thoughts to ponder:

How many of these American-grown Terrorists are residing, undetected, on our soil, primed to kill innocent Americans?

United States Attorney General Eric Holder was a senior partner with Covington & Burling, a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm, which currently represents 17 Yemenis and one Pakistani currently held at Gitmo.  Mr. Holder, while Deputy Attorney General, pushed for the release of 16 violent FALN terrorists against the advice of the FBI, the US Attorneys who prosecuted them and the NYPD officers who were maimed by them.  As we have seen in his performance so far, including his desire to put KSM on trail in New York City, he is perfectly willing to put politics before the national security interests of the country.  Just how vigorously is Attorney General Holder pushing our domestic intelligence operatives to locate these monsters hiding among us?

The New Aristocracy

May I ask y’all something?   How close do you think this country is to being ripped apart at the seams?  Other bloggers and pundits of note have been writing recently about the the growing division in this country between the ruling class (the Politburo, the Progressives, the Liberals, or, as O’Reilly calls them, the Pinheads) and great, honest, God-loving, hard-working, average Americans (the Proletariart, Conservatives, or wingnuts, as the Liberal bloggers refer to us).

Take a look at these topics from the Current Events section of RasmussenReports.com:

  • 54% Oppose Health Insurance Requirement in New Health Law
  • 64% Support Offshore Oil Drilling, 55% Favor Deepwater Drilling
  • 57% Say Health Care Plan Bad For the Country, 59% Favor Repeal
  • 65% Say New Sources of Energy More Important Than Conservation
  • 59% Support Arizona Law; 53% Trust States More than Feds To Enforce Immigration Law
  • Support for Mexican Border Fence Up to 68%
  • 42% Say Government Would Have Done Worse Job Than BP Responding To Oil Leak
  • Among these important topics, do you see any of them that the current administration or their minions in Congress and the Judiciary would agree with the majority of Americans on?

Thewre is a major disconnect going on between those in power and average Americans.  The Obama administration has decided to govern from a “Progressive”, or Far Left point of view.  The disconnect is happening because, going into 2010, only 21 % of Americans identified themselves as Liberal.   That leaves an overwhelming majority of Americans that are not Elitist whackjobs, consisting of 36% of Americans being Moderates, and 40% of Americans proclaiming themselves to be Conservative.

I thought this guy that sneaked into the White House was supposed to be the Great Unifier, not the Great Divider.

Remember in April 2008 when Obama was making a campaign speech in San Francisco and he said:

You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

That was just a hint of things to come.

Vic Gold, writer and historian, has given some food for thought.   Obama, he said, has never sat in the Oval Office and looked into a camera and said, “My fellow Americans…” just as every president before him has, in the era of radio, film and television.

All of Obama’s pronouncements have been before a live audience or a press gaggle. Why? Because he needs the fawning adulation of his elite audiences. He lacks the self-confidence of men such as Truman, JFK and RWR, all of whom said “this government” or “your government.” Obama says, “my administration” and “my cabinet.” He is a product of the Facebook generation, the “Me” generation.  He is outstanding at self-promotion, not so hot at other things, like, say, being President.

The differences between Reagan and Obama become ever more pronounced when one understands that Obama speaks mainly to the elites of Washington, New York and academia. Obama, the ultimate snob, prefers the company of wealthy bankers and Washington’s movers and shakers.

He does not care about the public’s perception.  The Elite are his people.

Ronaldus Magnus, on the other hand, spoke “over the heads of Washington” speaking straight to the American people. He preferred the company of farmers to financiers.   He preferred the wise common sense of the citizenry to the wisenheimers of Washington.

The American people were his people.

This new aristocracy can be observed in the ruling by the gay Federal Judge in California on Wednesday, negating the wishes of 7,000,000 Californian.  He told those citizens that they were stupid and their wishes meant nothing at all.

On Thursday, before the vote in the Senate to confirm Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, failed comedian and freshman Senator Al Franken showed Conservatives in general, and Mitch McConnell in particular, just what he thinks of all of us.

When Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was explaining his opposition to Elena Kagan’s Supreme Court nomination, Franken appeared to be moving around in his chair, gasping and rolling his eyes like a kid in Junior High School.

Moments before Kagan’s confirmation vote Thursday, the Minnesota Democrat was presiding over the Senate — and the Kentucky Republican believed that the freshman senator was mocking his speech. Upon the conclusion of his remarks, a torqued-off McConnell removed his microphone, approached the dais and confronted the Elitist little jerk.

“This isn’t ‘Saturday Night Live,’ Al,” McConnell told Franken sternly, according to people who overheard the exchange.

    Franken later apologized to McConnell.

Franken said in a statement to politico.com, trying to weasel out of responsibility for his actions:

The leader thought I was disrespectful while he was giving his speech on General Kagan.  He is entitled to give his speech with the presiding officer just listening respectfully. I went directly to his office after I was done presiding to apologize in person. He wasn’t there, so I’ve sent him a handwritten note.

Yeah, I’m sure you did.  At the bottom of the note, it probably read:  Signed, Epstein’s Mother.  Up your nose with a rubber hose, Al.

While Obama and all his Elitist minions are laughing it up and ignoring the wishes of the American people, they are each, at least those up for re-election to Congress this year, hoping that their cushy government job will be the last one that the hungry tiger, known as the American public, will devour.

    Wagyu Wishes and Arugula Dreams

How many of y’all out there are negotiating with the people you pay your monthly bills to, trying desperately to keep your head above water?  Staying home instead of going out to eat or to a movie?  Praying that you have enough to pay your mortgage/rent?  Sacrifice is something that average Americans are having to practice everyday in order to survive. President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) spoke about it in his inaugural address to the nation, and he’s rubbed our noses in it several times while lecturing the country on how to get back on its feet.

But while we little people are chin deep in the morass of this horrible economy, the Obamas don’t seem to sacrificing a cotton-pickin’ thing.  While we’re all eating peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her “closest friends.” According to CNN, Michelle (ma belle) and her posse are expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Isn’t that just lovely?

Reports are calling the accommodations at Michelle’s vay-cay par-tay, the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella, “luxurious,” “posh” and “a millionaires’ playground.”   How much per room?  Up to a staggering $2,500. Method of transportation? Air Force Two.

I don’t care what the Obamas do with their money.  What they do with ours is another thing entirely.   Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who have to go with her will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.

Maybe the word sacrifice does not mean the same thing to the Obamas as it does to us peons.  Remember when Michelle Obama accompanied her husband to Copenhagen along with best buddy Oprah Winfrey?   At the time, she said the trip, an ultimately unsuccessful bid to bring the Olympics to Chicago was:

As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days, so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.

A tax-payer funded trip to Denmark is a sacrifice?  I do not think that you know what this word means.

The way the Obamas roll is the most transparent thing about their administration.  Between lavish trips to Spain to reportedly flying Bo, the President’s Portuguese water dog, on a separate aircraft to vacation with them in Maine, to a date night in New York City that perhaps cost nearly $100,000, they seem to be content to be eating Wagyu beef and arugula while the American public is eating nibs crackers and vienna sausages.

This does not help the PR effort to paint the Obamas as “just your average American family”.  Earlier this month, Obama told ABC that he and Michelle are:

…not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.  It was just a few years ago that we had high credit card balances, we had two kids, thinking about college. We had our own retirement accounts, wondering if we were going to be able to get enough assets in there.

And then George Soros, anonymous foreign donors, and your sycophants within the Chicago Democratic machine came along, and here you are..worth millions.

Meanwhile, among us members of the Proletariat…

Initial requests for jobless benefits rose last week to their highest level since April, proving that “Recovery Summer” was nothing but a big, fat lie.

The Labor Department reported today that new claims for unemployment insurance rose by 19,000 to a seasonally adjusted 479,000. Claims have risen twice in the past three weeks.

Home sales and construction have slumped after a popular homebuyers’ tax credit expired on April 30. The Porkulus bill has been a total bust.

Apologetic analysts said seasonal factors that began in early July are still skewing the numbers and must be considered before reading too much in to the report.

Pay no attention to the reality around you.

The Labor Department was expecting claims to go down last week as many auto companies usually shut their plants temporarily in early July. Claims were expected to rise during the shutdown and then fall. But this year General Motors and other manufacturers skipped the shutdowns, so claims didn’t fall last week as much as expected.

The seasonally adjusted four-week average of claims, which smooths out volatility, rose by 5,250 to 458,500.

Applications for unemployment insurance have fluctuated between 450,000 and 480,000 all year, after declining steadily last year from a peak of 651,000 in March 2009. If America was experiencing a health economy, claims would fall below 400,000.

The total number of laid-off workers continuing to claim unemployment benefits fell by 34,000 to 4.54 million. That doesn’t include an additional 3.9 million people receiving extended unemployment benefits paid for by the federal government.  Nor does it include those who do not receive unemployment checks any more and have given up applying for jobs.

The economy had a small growth spurt  in the spring. It spurred some modest hiring, but not enough to make much of a difference in the unemployment rate, which is 9.5 percent.

Without jobs, people cannot spend money.  Without consumer spending, America’s economy will not grow.

On Friday, the Labor Department will issue the July jobs report and economists predict it will show the nation lost a net total of 65,000 jobs. That includes the end of about 150,000 temporary census jobs.

Excluding government employment, private companies are expected to add a net total of only 90,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, the number of Americans who are receiving food stamps rose to a record 40.8 million in May, coinciding with the jobless rate hovering near a 27-year high.

Assistance Program subsidies for food purchases jumped 19 percent from a year earlier and increased 0.9 percent from April, the US Department of Agriculture said in a statement on its website.

Participation has set records for 18 straight months.

Unemployment in July may have reached 9.6 percent, according to a Bloomberg News survey of analysts in advance of the Aug. 6 release of last month’s rate. Unemployment was 9.5 percent in June, near levels last seen in 1983.

An average of 40.5 million people, more than an eighth of the population, will get food stamps each month in the year that began Oct. 1, according to White House estimates.

The figure is projected to rise to 43.3 million in 2011.

    In January, Obama proclaimed that:

everybody in the country is going to have to sacrifice something, accept change for the greater good. Everybody is going to have to give. Everybody is going to have to have some skin in the game.

Unfortunately for hard-working Americans, it’s turned out to be our skin, his game.

Dr. Frankenbama and the Hideous Healthcare Monster

Missouri voters on Tuesday Told President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) exactly what they thought about his Regime’s plans to force all Americans to carry health insurance.   71 percent of Missouri voters said yes to Proposition C.   This proposition would stop the government from requiring the people of Missouri to have health insurance and would not allow penalizing them for not having it.

Obamacare’s requirement that most people have health insurance or face penalties takes effect in 2014.

Tuesday’s vote will be dismissed by Liberals as being largely symbolic because federal law takes precedence over state law.   However, it is a clear signal to anyone who will pay attention that Americans are fed up and tired of being herded like cattle toward a Marxist stateYeah, I said it.

Annette Read, a tea party participant from suburban St. Louis who quit her online retail job to lead a yearlong campaign for the Missouri ballot measure said:

To us, it symbolized everything.  The entire frustration in the country … how our government has misspent, how they haven’t listened to the people, this measure in general encompassed all of that.

Mike Sampson of Jefferson City, an independent emergency management contractor, said:

I believe that the general public has been duped about the benefits of the health care proposal.  My guess is federal law will in fact supersede state law, but we need to send a message to the folks in Washington, D.C., that people in the hinterlands are not happy.

The Missouri Primary Elections experienced a high Republican turnout.   In Missouri’s open primaries, voters do not have to register their party affiliation.

Republican lawmakers planned to place the measure on Missouri’s November ballot as a state constitutional amendment.   But in order to avoid a Democratic filibuster in the state Senate, they agreed to scale it back to a proposed law and place it on the primary ballot.

Legislatures in Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana and Virginia have already passed similar statutes without referring them to the ballot, and voters in Arizona and Oklahoma will vote on such measures as state constitutional amendments in November.  Missouri was the first state to challenge aspects of the federal law in a referendum.

Obama and his minions say that the intent of the insurance mandate is to broaden the pool of healthy people covered by insurers, resulting in controlled premiums that otherwise would rise because of separate provisions in the disaster called Obamacare prohibiting insurers from denying coverage to people with poor health or pre-existing conditions.

In other words, it’s a provision they added to counter-act another stupid provision in a stupid law.

Public officials in well over a dozen states, including Missouri, have filed lawsuits because they rightfully believe that Congress overstepped its constitutional authority by requiring citizens to buy health insurance.

There is expected to be a ruling by the Federal Courts way before the insurance requirement takes effect about whether the federal health care overhaul is constitutional.

The Missouri Hospital Association spent $400,000 warning people that passage of the ballot measure could increase hospitals’ costs for treating the uninsured, but, aside from that, the Astroturf (Soros-funded) organizations, the unions, and consumer groups that backed the passage of Obamacare were nowhere to be seen.

Remember when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told an audience that Democrats would “pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it, away from the fog of controversy?”

That remark was probably the most honest  thing she’s said in years.  Most Americans have a vague sense that something bad is happening to their health care, but very few, if any, have a clue as to exactly what This country is in for when Obamacare kicks in.

Representative Kevin Brady of Texas, the top House Republican on the Joint Economic Committee, had his staff prepare a study of the law, including a flow chart that illustrates how the major provisions will work.

The result, which came out July 28, provides citizens with a preview of the impact the health-care overhaul will have on their lives. What it shows will scare you worse than a Rob Zombie movie.

This chart includes the new fees, bureaucracies, and programs and connects them into an organizational chart that accounts for the existing structure. It’s so carefully documented that a line connecting two structures cites the legislative language that created the link.

According to the chart, the new law creates 68 grant programs, 47 bureaucratic entities, 29 demonstration or pilot programs, six regulatory systems, six compliance standards and two entitlements.

Getting a bureaucracy this big up and running will be next to impossible. But, don’t worry.  Obama’s minions thought of that.  Obamacare gives Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the authority to make judgments that can’t be challenged either administratively or through the courts.

This omnipotent power is extended as well to the development of new patient-care models under Obama’s controversial recess appointment, Donald Berwick, whom Republicans are calling the rationer-in-chief.  Berwick will run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where he can experiment with ways to use his newly granted power to help change the greatest healthcare system in the world into the failed socialized medicine system of Europe, which he adores.

Dr. Frankenbama has created a hideous monster that will have almost absolute power to dictate terms for participating in the health-care system. That’s the government angle.   The effect on American citizens is even worse.

According to The Regime, as many as 117 million people might have to change their health plans by 2013 as their employer-provided coverage loses its grandfathered status and becomes subject to the new Obamacare mandates.

Those mandates also might make your health care more expensive. The Congressional Budget Office predicts that premiums for a small number of families who buy their insurance privately will rise by as much as $2,100.

The way Obamacare will wind up increasing insurance coverage is an expansion of the Medicaid program. Of the 30 million new people covered, 16 million will be enrolled in Medicaid. And guess what?  You could end up in the program whether you want it or not.   The bill states that people who apply for coverage through the new exchanges or who apply for premium-subsidy credits will automatically be enrolled in Medicaid if they qualify.

Where is the money coming from in order to pay for this expansion?  Obamacare takes $529 billion from Medicare, with roughly 39 percent of the cut coming from the Medicare Advantage program.  In other words, the government is sacrificing the care of the elderly in order to increase the Medicaid rolls.

This will cost the American taxpayer $569 billion.

There will also be a 40 percent excise tax on those lucky people with so-called Cadillac health plans. The higher insurance costs that are driven by the government mandates will push many more ordinary plans into Cadillac territory.

If the government taxing people with good health insurance plans does not upset you, maybe the new 3.8 percent tax on investment income will.  This tax will apply even to a small number of home sales, those that generate $250,000 in profit for an individual or $500,000 for a married couple.

Finally, even though Obamacare has not really kicked in yet, its’ effects are being felt thoughout the Health Insurance Industry.  Thousands of people have already been laid off, and independent brokers and their agents are struggling to provide for their families. ..and it’s going to get worse.  Here’s a recent notice from a major Health Insurance Company:

CIGNA is committed to delivering affordable, quality health plans in the markets we serve. Provisions of the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) have necessitated changes in order for CIGNA to remain cost competitive. As a result, effective October 1, 2010, commissions will no longer be paid on any Individual & Family Plan policy containing one or more Guaranteed Issue customers.

Effective October 1, 2010, this change will impact:

    * Existing policies covering one or more persons on a Guaranteed Issue basis

    * New policies covering one or more persons on a Guaranteed Issue basis

Hey Libs, tell me once again how Obamacare will not lead to government-run insurance…and this time, try to do it without laughing.

    Two States, One Issue

Virginia’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued a legal opinion last Friday granting the authority to Virginia police  state law enforcement officers allowing them to check the immigration status of anyone “stopped or arrested” in response to an inquiry over whether his state could mirror the policies passed into law in Arizona.

    Per AG Cuccinelli:

It is my opinion that Virginia law enforcement officers, including conservation officers may, like Arizona police officers, inquire into the immigration status of persons stopped or arrested.

This decision follows the actions of a Clinton-appointed Federal Judge who blocked Arizona from implementing the same provision in their new anti-illegal immigration law.

The difference in this ruling is that Cuccinelli reiterated in the opinion a prior finding that while state officers have the authority to arrest suspects on criminal immigration violations, they are advised against arresting over civil immigration violations. Overstaying a visa would fall under the latter category.

Meanwhile, back in Arizona, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu has had enough of Obama and his administration.

Babeu says that instead of helping law enforcement in Arizona stop the hundreds of thousands of people who come into the United States illegally, the federal government is targeting the state and its law enforcement personnel:

What’s very troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help they put up billboard-size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind that, they drag us into court with the ACLU.

The sheriff was referring to the law suits filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the U.S. Department of Justice challenging the state’s new immigration law.

    Sheriff Babeu asked:

So who has partnered with the ACLU.  It’s the president and (Attorney General) Eric Holder himself.   And that’s simply outrageous.

Our own government has become our enemy and is taking us to court at a time when we need help.

The May 17 ACLU class-action lawsuit charges the law uses racial profiling and named the county attorneys and sheriffs in all 15 Arizona counties as defendants.  The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit on July 6, charging the Arizona law preempted the federal government’s sole right to enforce immigration law.

If the president would do his job and secure the border; send 3,000 armed soldiers to the Arizona border and stop the illegal immigration and the drug smuggling and the violence, we wouldn’t even be in this position and where we’re forced to take matters into our own hands.

Per U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), about 250,000 people were detained in Arizona in the last 12 months for being in the country illegally. Babeu reminds us that number only reflects the number of people detained and that thousands more enter the country illegally each year.

Another little fact that the Main Stream Media ignores is, that, according to the CBP, 17 percent of those detained already have a criminal record in the United States.

And if Obama’s war against the states he’s supposed to be working for isn’t enough to get you mad, how about this?

On the day parts of Arizona’s immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was in the news for a related reason: there’s a price on his head, offered by a Mexican drug cartel.

The audio and text message in Spanish offered $1 million for Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s head and $10,000 for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel.

An anonymous man says his wife received the text message Tuesday evening.  It also included an international phone number and instructions to pass the message along.

    The man said:

She showed it to me..I was kind of disgusted..I reported it to the Sheriff’s department yesterday..they said they were going to direct the threat squad on it.

Lisa Allen of Sheriff Joe’s office says they believe the message originated in Mexico.

Even though the Sheriff has received numerous empty death threats in the past, they believe this threat has some merit to it because of its timing.

    Allen says:

Arpaio gets threats pretty routinely, but obviously with this heightened awareness of his role in the immigration issue we’ve got to take this one a little bit more seriously with a million dollar contract out on him.

But what really has investigators paying attention is how quickly the message may have been spread:

It’s going so many different places that our folks are looking at it and thinking well at any given point in time it could land in front of some crazy person who thinks I can do that.

How is Sheriff Joe responding to the threat?  Allen says:

It’s a little bit like water off a duck’s back for him, but you never know if it’s that sense of false bravado with him..you just can’t read it, I’m sure he’s concerned, I’m sure he’s concerned for his family more than anything else.

The text message came from an international number, which will make it very difficult for investigators to trace.

So, while Obama and his minions attack in our own courts the very citizens that they are supposed to be serving and protecting, a Mexican drug cartel places a bounty on the head of the most well-known sheriff in America.  And Scooter wonders why his poll numbers are sinking faster than the Titanic.

Before I leave, here’s a video that will probably complete your meltdown that I have started with this blog.  Vaya con Dios, mis amigos.

    A Presidential Liability

President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) makes his first Atlanta appearance since his inauguration today.

If you think every Democrat in Georgia that’s running for office this November will want to have a photo op today with Scooter, you’re wrong.

Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes has said he’s not available to be there.  The Democratic gubernatorial candidate will be somewhere else in Georgia, about 100 miles away from Obama.

Campaign manager Chris Carpenter released the following statement:

Roy has a busy campaign schedule in Middle and South Georgia on Monday where he’ll be talking to farmers and local law enforcement. Roy’s priority is to continue traveling across the state, talking to voters about jobs, education, and transportation- his plan to make Georgia work.  Uh Huh.

In July, a poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. showed that Obama has a meager 37 percent approval rating in the state of Georgia. The president’s popularity with Independents, in particular, has also decreased significantly since his election in 2008.

Governor Sonny Perdue will be available to greet the President planeside when Scooter lands in Georgia.   Mr. Perdue’s spokesperson Bert Brantley said that the governor had to juggle his schedule to be able to greet the president.

This is nothing new in Georgia politics.

In 1996 Democrat Michael Coles was running against Republican Newt Gingrich for the 6th congressional district seat.   Mr. Coles shunned President Clinton at rallies in Atlanta and Macon.

Mr. Coles is a legendary Atlanta entrepeneur who entertained political aspirations a decade ago.  He now lives in Montana.  He shared these thoughts:

In 96, I stepped out of the private arena and ran against Newt Gingrich for the house. I ran as a Democrat. I think the difficult thing for anyone in Georgia – if you run as a Democrat- is to separate yourself from not being a national Democrat, because Georgia Democrats like Zell Miller and Sam Nunn are cut out of a different cloth and that’s how I wanted to be seen. I wanted to be sure, if I was going to lose that race- -I wasn’t going to be indentified as a national Democrat.

One Democratic operative relayed to Hullinger that Governor Zell Miller wanted to be with President Clinton during an Atlanta campaign rally.  Sadly for the Governor, Mr. Clinton was unpopular in Georgia at the time.

Instead of Governor Miller appearing on stage with Bubba, Zell Miller hid out in the crowd.

The Governor did, technically, make it to the rally, that sly old fox.

Not only are Democrats trying to avoid being seen with Obama, they’re trying to avoid each other.

With Mid-term Elections coming up quickly, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did the Washington two-step around questions on ABC’s “This Week” about the ethics charges facing two Democratic members of the House. The Democratic game plan for the Mid-terms seems to be “every man for himself.”

Pelosi told ABC This Week’s new Liberal anchor Christiane Amanpour:

I’m totally out of the loop.  It is independent. It is confidential, classified, secret, whatever. We don’t know what it is.

And just as San Fran Nan is desperately trying to distance herself from the graft and corruption of her fellow House Dems, so have numerous democratic congressional hopefuls chosen to distance themselves from the current unpopularity of their Party’s leadership.  I’m shocked.

    According to Madame Speaker:

Our members are the best salespersons for their own districts.   They’ve been elected there. They know the constituents.

And their constituents know them…and that’s the Democrats’ biggest problem.

With voters already outraged about the economy, the graft and corruption of New York’s Charlie Rangel and California’s Maxine Waters have the Democrats scrambling in a last-ditch effort to maintain their Congressional majority.   The fact that two Democrats are headed to rare trials in the full House seems to be handing the Republican Party much need ammunition for the upcoming battle.

Jonathan Allen, congressional correspondent for Politico opined:

I think historically one of the best ways to win control of Congress is to say the other guys are corrupt.

    Especially when there’s proof, Jonathan.

So, if they can get their act together, the Republicans are being served up this election on a silver platter.   And the Democrats? Well, their hopes for keeping control of the House may rest on three things:  money, distance, and promises.

The Democrats have raised the most campaign money.  Of course, a bunch came from Soros, and a bunch probably came from overseas like Obama’s campaign donations.

Pelosi confirmed the monetary advantage on ABC’s This Week:

We have a two-to-one advantage money-wise.  So, we feel very confident about where we are.

Second, the Democrats are painfully aware that keeping their distance from each other may be essential to ensure the preservation of their congressional majority.  Additionally, Obama has assured Democratic members of Congress that he will do anything he can to help them survive their fall elections, even if that means staying away.

And all the Democrats breathed a sigh of relief when he announced that.

The third thing is, despite charges from Republican spokesmen such as Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner that Speaker Pelosi has not kept her 2007 promise to “drain the swamp that is Washington, D.C.,” the current action by the Ethics Committee, however harmful to the Party’s prospects, may actually be the greatest proof that she has.

The problem with Pelosi using Rangels’ and Waters’ punishments as proof that she’s cracking down on corruption, is that fact that, right now, it looks like both will just get slapped on the wrist.

It has taken Obama less than two years to alienate his own political party.  How awful a President do you have to be to accomplish this in such a short time?  Bush was a second term lame duck president with poll numbers in the 30 percentile before he got the brush-off from Republican candidates.  Scooter hasn’t even finished half of his first term yet.

    Unprecedented.

A Study of Free Will and Redemption

When Israel Camacho tried to rob a MetroPCS cell phone store at gunpoint in Pompano Beach, Fla.,he got more than he bargained for.  He was witnessed to about the redemptive power of Christ.  Watch this video as store manager Nayara Goncalves, 20, calmly witnessed to the man about Jesus and her faith until he left without taking any money.

Goncalves said she doesn’t know why she began to talk to him about Jesus.

    Goncalves related to ABCNews.com:

I believe it was the Holy Spirit of God that really made me want to tell him about Jesus.  “I would never be able to do that myself. I would never think that God could use me the way that he did.  [God] impressed me.

Goncalves said she started to cry after he left the store because she was relieved and awed at what had just taken place.

I realized what had just happened, what could have happened if God wasn’t here with me.

It appeared, at the time, that Goncalves’ witness made a great impression on Camacho:

I believe I touched him with what I said.  I really hope I planted a little seed in his heart.

He left Ms. Goncalves apologizing and empty-handed.

Unfortunately, Israel Camacho, 37,  of Coral Springs did not take to heart the information that Ms. Goncalves was trying to share with him.  Just two hours later, he was arrested on charges of robbing a Payless Shoe Store at gunpoint.

Police say Camacho put a handgun in a shoebox and forced the clerk to give him cash from the register. On his way out the door, Camacho said to his victims, “God bless you.”

Detectives say Camacho is a “serial robber”.  They arrested him two days after these 2 incidents.

Camacho, has been in and out of Florida jails since 1998, served 18 months in prison six years ago, for forging documents and grand theft.

He’s also being held in Broward County Jail for failure to pay child support.

Camacho’s actions in no way diminish the bravery and testimony of Ms. Goncalves. When you witness to a person to Christ, whether they accept Him or not is their personal decision.

But you know what the great news is?  Jesus saves.  Let’s take a look at the interesting case of Stephen Baldwin.

The youngest of the Baldwin brothers acting family, Stephen has appeared in over 65 films and dozens of television roles.  According to Stephen:

growing up Baldwin was like the Brady Bunch on a whole bunch of espresso.

In his early days as an actor and model in New York, he earned a reputation as a wild man.

    Alec Baldwin says:

He was one of the great playboy nightlife people in the annals of Manhattan nightlife  He was like having a panther for a pet. He was just this exotic animal who was so beautiful and everyone loved him.

    According to Stephen:

I never really did anything too bad.    didn’t commit any crimes that anyone was able to…convict.

Stephen soon became an integral part of the New York acting community. He met the girl of his dreams, Kennya, on a Manhattan bus.

I said, I just met the girl I’m going to marry and she’s gonna have our kids.  And what we never could have known then that we understand now is that it was all part of God’s plan.

He married Kennya and they now have two young daughters, but he also encountered another risk of the show business culture – an addiction to drugs and alcohol.

     His pastor, John Carter, says:

He had a lot of stuff in his life that was messing him up and even though he had fame and he’s a handsome guy…he had a beautiful wife…all the things that everybody thinks you gotta have…he still wasn’t happy inside.

    Kennya issued an ultimatum:

(I told him) I needed somebody who was going to be straight and who was not going to be lying to me and…living a double life.  I realized it wasn’t working and it wasn’t okay.

Stephen entered a 12-step program and has been sober for 16 years. He recognizes now that God had plans for the two of them.

Looking back in retrospect – (it was) all totally the hand of God orchestrating a series of events and scenarios that would lead to who I am today.

The Baldwins moved out west to Arizona and Stephen landed a role on a television series called The Young Riders. Long days on the set, combined with the demands of a young family, compelled them to hire a Brazilian housekeeper named Agousta. The woman, an outspoken and joyous Christian, told Kennya (in Portuguese) that she was definitely NOT there simply to clean their house.

    As Stephen tells it:

So my wife comes to me and says ‘uh, you know, honey, I was talking to Agousta and she says that someone in her church in Brazil said she should come to America and work for a couple who will become born-again Christians and be involved in Christian ministry. What do you think of that?’

    He was far from thrilled:

I mean, you know, I was dialing 9-1-1.

Kennya was curious about her housekeeper’s faith.

Agousta would always talk about Jesus and I said to her ‘I want to know about this Jesus. Who is this Jesus?’ I dealt with my hang-ups, with my fears, with my arrogance, my pride. There was so much in me that God showed me I had to change.

At first, Stephen really did not know what to think as his wife began her new walk in Christ.

I was cool with it, and at some point it registered in me somewhere that it was genuine.  Something was changing in her, and it was real. Then 9-11 happened.

It was a day and an event where, for me, the impossible became possible.

Very soon after 9-11, Stephen Baldwin dedicated his life to Christ.

When I decided to become a Christian, it was a full-on, gloves-off, throw-down, kick-boxing match between me and God.

Since Stephen became a Christian, it’s been quite an adventure, with memorable events along the way, ranging from the creation (with Kevin Palau) of the Livin It action sports ministry to White House prayer sessions to the National Republican Convention. His first film for PalauFest ProductionsLivin It – became one of the most successful action sports DVD’s ever produced in the genre: the sequel, Livin It L.A., is set for release in mid-2006. He’s developing printed outreach tools as well, from graphic novels to testimony anthologies to his own autobiography.

Coming from an outspoken family better known for their liberal views, he’s at peace with his brothers and rock solid in his purpose:

My whole family, including my brothers, from a spiritual perspective has been very supportive of me.  Now, when my faith-based motivations led me to support the re-election of the president at the Republican National Convention….let’s just say the boys were a little concerned.

Stephen Baldwin has found his purpose in his relationship with the action sports athletes and their legions of young fans and followers that are an integral part of his Livin It films and national tours:

I really feel that these are the people that God has called me to relate to.  The Livin It skateboarders and BMX’ers are hard core, but God has gifted them to communicate the Good News, especially to kids.

Who I am today, and I hope this doesn’t sound too hokey, I am the guy that I couldn’t become on my own. I couldn’t become the man that I wanted to until I gave my life to Jesus Christ. I am in no way perfect but I’m a far better husband and father. I’m a person who understands what their purpose is.

The Bible says God creates us, first and foremost, to do what? To love Him first, to seek His will and serve Him. This is a point of time in my life that is so far beyond the word ‘best’ that I couldn’t even use words to describe it.

    What a great testimony.

I once asked my brother-in-Christ, Robert, who served our country as Marine, what he would tell someone seeking to know Him.  He said with a smile on his face:

I would tell them to read the Gospel of John.  And if they have any questions when they’re done, read it again.

    Makes sense to me.

    John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

    A Mid-term Tsunami

As America’s Mid-term Elections draw closer, the tone-deaf members of the Democratic Party are poised for the biggest political defeat in our nation’s history.   They are saddled with an un-American President who is more intent on accomplishing the tenets of his Far Left, Marxist Ideology than he is in dealing with the economic crisis and enemies, foreign and domestic, that besiege us.  Their members are besotted by greed, power, and an overblown sense of self-entitlement, blindly following the wishes of their president and his Far Left base, instead of following the wishes of the majority of Americans.  Let’s take a look at 3 problems that are presently roadblocks to the Democrats’ Mid-term hopes:

    1)  Fox News told us Friday that charming Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.)will go through an ethics trial akin to the one likely on the docket for Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY).

People familiar with the investigation, who choose to remain anonymous, predict the charges will be announced next week. The House ethics committee declined Friday to make any public statement on the matter.

Waters, 71, is accused of using her position to help arrange for federal bailout funds for a bank associated with her family.   They have already investigated her for communicating with an executive at a bank in which her husband owned stock. That same bank was applying for a federal bailout. She serves on the House Financial Services Committee.

    Waters responded:

I am confident that as the investigation moves forward the panel will discover that there are no facts to support allegations that I have acted improperly.

Waters came under scrutiny after former Treasury Department officials said she tried to arrange a meeting between regulators and executives at Boston-based OneUnited Bank without mentioning her husband’s financial ties to the institution.

Her husband, Sidney Williams, held at least $250,000 in the bank’s stock and previously had served on its board. A spokesman for Waters claims that Williams was no longer on the board when the meeting was arranged.

Sources indicate that the House Ethics Committee is close to issuing a report in Waters case and will announce her punishment soon.

    2)  Meanwhile, calls for Rep. Charlie Rangel, Democrat from  New York, to resign amid reports that all the House was going to do to him for his 13 ethics violation was reprimand him.  Way to take a stand, Dems!

A reprimand is the most lenient of the three formal modes of discipline in the House. The other two are censure and expulsion.

A Congressional Research Service report tells us that “reprimand expressly involves a lesser level of disapproval of a Member than that of Censure, and is thus a less severe rebuke by the institution.”

If Charlie is reprimanded, he must stand in the well of the House and be reprimanded by the speaker. The full House would likely have to vote to reprimand Rangel.

Rangel racked up 13 allegations of violations relating to his tax filings for properties he owns in the Dominican Republic and the use of four lucrative rent-controlled apartments in pricey New York City.

If an agreement with Rangel is not reached, the case goes to another ethics committee panel that will likely hold a public “trial” in September against the 20-term lawmaker. The four-member panel that recommended a reprimand is composed of Reps. Green, Jo Ann Bonner, R-Ky., Doc Hastings, R-Wash., and Bobby Scott, D-Va., who joined the investigative subcommittee in August 2008.

Already a handful of Democrats has called for Rangel to resign, most recently Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky. The others include Rep. Walter Minnick of Idaho, Betty Sutton of Ohio, Zack Space of Ohio, Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona and Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio.

    Kirkpatrick said in a statement:

Too many politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, have fallen victim to the idea that they are ‘different’ than regular folks and nothing could be further from the truth.

It is our job as members of Congress to hold each other accountable to a higher standard regardless of party.  If the serious charges against (Rangel) are accurate, he needs to resign.

And it appears that  President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) is throwing Good Time Charlie under the bus in an interview with CBS News:

I think Charlie Rangel served a very long time and served his constituents very well, but these allegations are very troubling.  And he’s somebody who is at the end of his career, 80 years old. I’m sure that what he wants is to be able to end his career with dignity, and my hope is that it happens.

Rangel denies the charges and says the indictment released Thursday contains factual errors.

    3)  Finally, there’s the matter of Illegal Immigration, the 600 pound gorilla sitting on the sofa.  The fight over Arizona’s immigration law showed no signs of letting up Friday as the federal judge who blunted its force faced threats and the Republican governor who signed it considered changes to address any legal problems.

Since Clinton appointee, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton,  put on hold the strongest parts of the law, hundreds of e-mails and phone calls — including some threats — have poured into the courthouse.

Seventy people were arrested in demonstrations.

And a fund set up to help defend the new law added $75,000 Wednesday alone, leaving the state with more than $1.6 million to get Bolton’s ruling overturned.

Gov. Jan Brewer has vowed not to back down, saying she’ll challenge Bolton’s decision all the way to the Supreme Court.

But Brewer said Friday she may “tweak” the law to respond to the parts Bolton faulted.

    Brewer told The Associated Press:

Basically we believe (the law) is constitutional but she obviously pointed out faults that can possibly be fixed, and that’s what we would do.

She said she’s talking to legislative leaders about the possibility of a special session, but said no specific changes had been identified.

Bolton delayed the most Liberally-opposed provisions of the law in her temporary injunction, including a section that required officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws.   Bolton believes that the federal government’s case has a good chance at succeeding in its argument that federal immigration law trumps state law.

On the other hand, she allowed police to enforce the law’s bans on blocking vehicle traffic when seeking or offering day-labor services and a revision to the smuggling ban that lets officers stop drivers if they suspect motorists have broken traffic laws.

Bolton also let officers enforce a new prohibition on driving or harboring illegal immigrants in furtherance of their illegal presence.

Democrats did not believe that Brewer was being honest in her stated desire to change the law, with a key state House of Representatives minority leader calling it laughable:

Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Phoenix asked:

Why would we help her?  This bill is so flawed and clearly a federal judge agrees.  Besides that, we got to get these new Hispanic voters on board in time for the Mid-terms.

House Speaker Kirk Adams said there would not be much support among fellow Republicans to weaken the law.

Attorneys have begun reviewing the law to identify possible changes, he said.

The law’s chief sponsor, state Sen. Russell Pearce, said he would only back changes to make it stronger.

Even though the ruling clearly pandered to them, immigrant rights supporters still held passionate demonstrations near the federal courthouse in downtown Phoenix after the parts of the law that weren’t blocked took effect Thursday.

Federal officials in charge of court security wouldn’t say whether anyone made a death threat against Bolton and wouldn’t provide specifics of the threats they were examining, but said a majority of the e-mails and phone calls to the judge’s chambers and the court clerk’s office are from people who are upset about her ruling, officials said.

While the Arizona lawsuit waits in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of appeals, the most brilliant president ever and his minions are trying to figure out how they can just bypass Congress and grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.

These three situations clearly provide evidence to back the prognostication that the Democrats are going to face their own Little Big Horn in November.  Pseudo-intellectualism, Beltway Elitism, an absence of ethical behavior, and a ‘we-know-better-than-you-do” attitude toward the American public, is all adding up to indicate the coming of an electoral tsunami of Biblical proportions.  Nancy and Harry had better start building an ark.

How to Spy on Internet Users

Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) and his minions want the FBI to have the power to make companies turn over records of an individual’s Internet activity without a court order if agents deem the information relevant to a terrorism or intelligence investigation.

It comes down to just four words which the administration wants to add to a list of items that the law says the FBI may demand without a judge’s approval.  Those words are electronic communication transactional records.   According to government lawyers this would include the addresses to which an Internet user sends e-mail; the times and dates e-mail was sent and received; and possibly a user’s browser history. The lawyers are very quick to point out that it would not include the “content” of e-mail or other Internet communication.  Uh Huh.

While Obama and the gang are trying to portray this breach of freedom as a technical clarification designed to remedy a legal ambiguity, industry lawyers and privacy advocates say this would be an expansion of the power the government wields through national security letters.  The letters, which can be issued by an FBI field office on its own authority, require the recipient to provide the requested information and to keep the request secret.  These letters are how the government would obtain the electronic records.

Stewart A. Baker is a former senior Bush administration Homeland Security official who practices national security and surveillance law.  According to him, the proposed change would broaden the bureau’s authority:

It’ll be faster and easier to get the data.  And for some Internet providers, it’ll mean giving a lot more information to the FBI in response to an NSL.

A lot of Internet service providers have resisted the government’s demands to turn over electronic records.  They argue that surveillance law as written does not allow them to do so, advised by industry lawyers . One anonymous senior administration government official countered that “most” Internet or e-mail providers do turn over such data.

As seen by disillusioned Liberals, the move is another example of an administration retreating from campaign pledges to enhance civil liberties in relation to national security.

Michelle Richardson, American Civil Liberties Union legislative counsel said that the proposal is:

…incredibly bold, given the amount of electronic data the government is already getting.

Of course, if Scooter gets his wish, the effect would be to greatly expand the amount and type of personal data the government can obtain without a court order.  Liberals can not believe what they are hearing.

Michael Sussmann, a Justice Department lawyer under President Bill Clinton who now represents Internet and other firms, states the obvious:

You’re bringing a big category of data — records reflecting who someone is communicating with in the digital world, Web browsing history and potentially location information — outside of judicial review.

If hindsight is 20/20, how valuable would the ability to chart future activities accurately from internet chatter be?

The investment arms of the CIA and Google are both supporting Recorded Future, a company that monitors the web in real time — and says it uses that information to predict the future.

The goal is to figure out for each incident the actors, the location, and when it’s going down. The company then analyzes the online information, showing  “momentum” for any given event.

According to company CEO Christopher Ahlberg, a former Swedish Army Ranger with a PhD in computer science:

The cool thing is, you can actually predict the curve, in many cases.

And that’s the reason the 16-person Cambridge, Massachusetts, firm now has two ardent suitors in Google Ventures, the search giant’s investment division, and in In-Q-Tel, which handles similar duties for the CIA and the wider intelligence community.

This is not the first time Google has done business with America’s spy agencies. Long before it reportedly enlisted the help of the National Security Agency to secure its networks, Google sold equipment to the secret signals-intelligence group. In-Q-Tel backed the mapping firm Keyhole, which was bought by Google in 2004 — and then became the backbone for Google Earth.

But this is the first time that the intelligence community and Google have provided the money for the same startup company at the same time. Nobody’s saying that Google is buddy-buddy with the CIA.  However, the investments are going to feed the theories of the critics of Google, who believe the search giant is in some sort of business arrangement with the U.S. government.

America’s espionage agencies have become more focused in using “open source intelligence”.  That’s information that’s available to everyone, but often hidden in the daily avalanche of TV shows, newspaper articles, blog posts, online videos and radio reports.

Then CIA-director General Michael Hayden told a conference in 2008:

In fact, there’s a real satisfaction in solving a problem or answering a tough question with information that someone was dumb enough to leave out in the open.

Secret information isn’t always the brass ring in our profession.

Google’s fans claim that just because Google and In-Q-Tel have both invested in Recorded Future doesn’t mean Google is working with the Obama Administration.  Goggle’s critics insist that the Obama Administration and the Mountain View, California, company joined forces a long time ago.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt hosted a town hall at company headquarters in the early days of Obama’s presidential campaign.  Senior Obama administration officials like economic chief Larry Summers give speeches at the New America Foundation, the left-of-center think tank chaired by Schmidt. Former Google public policy chief Andrew McLaughlin is now the White House’s deputy CTO, and was publicly (if mildly) reprimanded by the administration for continuing to hash out issues with his former colleagues.  Nope, not involved with each others at all.

Thirty seven state Attorneys General are demanding answers from the company after Google gathered up 600 gigabytes of data from open Wi-Fi networks as it snapped pictures for its Street View project. (The company swears the incident was an accident.)  Uh Huh.

John M. Simpson, professional corporate critic,  told a Congressional hearing in a prepared statement:

Assurances from the likes of Google that the company can be trusted to respect consumers’ privacy because its corporate motto is ‘don’t be evil’ have been shown by recent events such as the ‘Wi-Spy’ debacle to be unwarranted

Steven Aftergood of the Federation of American Scientists says he isn’t worried about the Recorded Future deal. Yet:

To me, whether this is troublesome or not depends on the degree of transparency involved. If everything is aboveboard, from contracts to deliverables, I don’t see a problem with it.  But if there are blank spots in the record, then they will be filled with public skepticism or worse, both here and abroad, and not without reason.

It this weren’t so scary, it would be funny.  Under the administration of a guy who hung out all his life with revolutionary radicals who railed against The System, America is being threatened with the loss of Freedom of Speech, one of the very freedoms that those hippies were fighting The Man for, so long ago.
