Obama’s Grudge Match

In an effort to appease his Far Left Base, Barack Hussein Obama ‘s(mm mmm mmmm), latest Don Quixote-ish crusade (without the noble intentions) is Financial Reform.  This poorly hidden quest for power began with the takeovers of Financial Institutions and GMC by Il Duce II.  It has all the sincerity of a “blood feud” between Nature Boy Ric Flair and The American Dream Dusty Rhodes.  (WOOOO!)

Scooter faces some problems in completing his Quixotic quest.  First, Goldman Sachs, currently involved in a law suit with the SEC (great timing, huh?), was his second largest contributor.  But his ties with them do not stop there:

According to OpenSecrets.com, those at Goldman Sachs were second only to the University of California in terms of being an Obama top donor. While the organization itself did not donate the money, such donations were made either through employees, owners, the immediate families of such members and/or through the organization’s PAC.

During the 2008 campaign, those at Goldman Sachs donated $955,473 to the Obama campaign. Morgan Stanley, though further down the list, still made the top 20 with a bundled donation of $485,823.

Mr. Obama has also dipped in the Goldman Sachs pool in making his presidential appointments. U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s loyalty to Goldman Sachs has been an issue of contention and, upon assuming his post at the Treasury Department, he named Mark Patterson, a former Goldman Sachs lobbyist, as a top aide.

This is like a wrestling feud.  The wrestlers have a bloody brawl and you see them later that night having pancakes together at IHOP.

As a result of Scooter’s (Soros’) plan for the Socialization of America,  Democrats on Wall Street are, like a lot of other Obama voters, beginning to experience buyers’ remorse:

Just two years after Mr. Obama helped his party pull in record Wall Street contributions — $89 million from the securities and investment business, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics — some of his biggest supporters, like Mr. Dimon (JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon), have become the industry’s chief lobbyists against his regulatory agenda.

Republicans are rushing to capitalize on what they call Wall Street’s “buyer’s remorse” with the Democrats. And industry executives and lobbyists are warning Democrats that if Mr. Obama keeps attacking Wall Street “fat cats,” they may fight back by withholding their cash.

So, how far can Obama push Wall Street without losing a huge source of financial support for the Democrats?

Taking Advantage of a Tragedy

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the bombing of the Oklamhoma City Federal Building by the psycopathic Timothy McVeigh.  In the flash of an eye, 168 people lost their lives.  They ranged in age from the 19 toddlers from 4 months – 5 years playing in a daycare in the building to a 73 year old.

There willl be a Remembrance Ceremony today in Oklahoma City.  They will observe 168 minutes of silence to remember those lives senselessly snuffed out.  One of the keynote speakers today is Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.  Her topic is “Combating Home-Grown Terrorism”.

Tonight on The President’s favorite Cable News Channel, Secretary “Big Sis” (I had an aunt like her.)  Napolitano’s theme continues”.  According to their press release:

MSNBC viewers will hear Timothy McVeigh’s chilling confession in his own words for the first time in “The McVeigh Tapes: Confessions of an American Terrorist.”

Drawing from 45 hours of never-before-released interview audiotapes recorded during McVeigh’s prison stay, the film reveals the bomber’s descriptions of the planning and execution of the horrific attack and offers insight into how a decorated American soldier became a dangerous, anti-government terrorist.  It will be hosted by Rachel Maddow (fill in your own smart aleck comment here). 

It is very important to remember the anniversary of this tragedy.  However, it is not appropriate to politicize it.  How do I come to this conclusion?  Allow me to refresh your memory: 

 About a year ago, The Department of Homeland Security released a report titled Rightwing Extremism:  Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.  Their key findings? 

The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing* terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment. 

In the real word, we call that supposition.

That was just the beginning.  Once the Tea Parties got going and the Townhall blowback hit full steam, that stalwart of accuracy, San Fran Nan Pelosi said the following:

On February 27th, NY Times Columnist Frank Rich wrote the editorial colum, The Axis of the Obsessed and Deranged, after psychopath Andrew Joseph Stack III  flew a small plane into the IRS Building in Austin Texas, killing himself and one innocent man.  In it, he launched a diatribe against the Tea Party Movement, using phrases like: 

It is not glib or inaccurate to invoke Oklahoma City in this context, because the acrid stench of 1995 is back in the air.

…the unhinged and sometimes armed anti-government right that was thought to have vaporized after its Oklahoma apotheosis is making a comeback. And now it is finding common cause with some elements of the diverse, far-flung and still inchoate Tea Party movement. All it takes is a few self-styled “patriots” to sow havoc.

I could go on and on with examples of the Left’s current message concerning Tea Partiers and violence, but I would have to go to some Blogs where I would have to disinfect myself after reading.  This brilliant strategy is backfiring against the Libs, as just plain ol’ average Americans have become fed up with being villified and demonized for disageeing with the Petulant President and his plans for the Socialization of America.

Today is a solemn day for remembering the innocent lives lost.  It will be reprehensible if the Left uses it for its’ own Political purposes.  Unfortunately, it appears that they plan to do exactly that.  As Uncle Jed Clampett used to say:

The Dangers of Prayer and Eye Black

This past Thursday, we had two rulings aimed at Christians that made the national news.  The first ruling came from U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb (a Clinton appointee), who ruled that the National Day of Prayer, scheduled for May 6th, was unconstitutional.    Crabb wrote in her ruling (excerpt):

It goes beyond mere “acknowledgment” of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context. In this instance, the government has taken sides on a matter that must be left to individual conscience

One might argue that the National Day of Prayer does not violate the establishment clause because it does not endorse any one religion. Unfortunately, that does not cure the problem. Although adherents of many religions “turn to God in prayer,” not all of them do.

Further, the statute seems to contemplate a specifically Christian form of prayer with its reference to “churches” but no other places of worship and the limitation in the 1952 version of the statute that the National Day of Prayer may not be on a Sunday.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

Judge Crabb, what part of the fact that the National Day of Prayer is voluntary don’t you understand?  A voluntary event means you do not have to participate if you do not want to.  On the other hand, our new Obamanation of a Healthcare, err, Health Insurance, err, Healthcare Reform Law involves mandated purchase of Health Insurance Policies, with the IRS (Revenuers) reinforcing the fines for not purchasing an insurance policy.  That, my dear judge, is an example of something unconstitutional.

The second ruling against Christians involved the writing of messages on eye black by college football players.  The NCAA banned this practice.  This ruling was the result of Tim Tebow, the Unversity of Florida star quarterback and strong Christian, writing scripture verses on his eye black.   For his last home game as a Senior,  Florida fans urged everyone to wear eye black (with or without Bible verses on them) in honor of Tebow.  It sounds like the fans were really offended, doesn’t it, NCAA?

In both these rulings, it appears that some Liberals in positions of power are taking steps to insure that President Obama’s proclamation that “America is not longer just a Christian nation.” is reinforced.  I’ve got some news for the psuedo-intellectual Elite:  75 % of Americans identify themselves as Christians.  The freedom Americans have experienced for over 200 years is God-given, not man-made.  It is not yours to give or take away.  That is way above your pay grade.

By the way, Judge Crabb, if you want to speak to me on May 6th, you will find me at my town’s City Hall, attending our National Day of Prayer Service.  I’ll save you a seat.

To Barry, Love, Mahmoud

It was announced yesterday by the White House, that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad had sent a personal letter to Barack Obama.  The Washington Post has printed a translation of that letter.  Being your humble servant, I will now attempt to translate their translation for you.

In the name of ( the Iranian version of) God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Mr. Barack Obama

President-elect (as of a year and a half ago) of the United States of America

I congratulate you on having gained the majority of the votes of those who took part in the election (The majority of which are experiencing the worst buyers’ remorse in history.). As you know, the chances that God gives to his subjects pass swiftly(come on, 2012). They can be used for the perfection of humanity and to the benefit of nations or, God forbid, to the detriment of nations.(Too Late. Obama definitely has the “detriment” part down already.)

I hope you will choose to honor the real interests of people and justice and equity over the insatiable appetites of the selfish minority(You know, Barry.  Those people that still believe in Freedom and the Constitution.). Use this chance to serve to the extent you can. And leave a good name behind for yourself (Too late). 

People expect an immediate and clear response to the pressure for fundamental change in the American government’s policies, both foreign and domestic (He’s changing them, alright.  And not for the better.). This is the desire of all the world’s nations and of the American nation as well, and it should be the objective and basis of all your future government’s programs and actions (Play ball with us, Barry, and we’ll keep those anonymous contributions from the Middle East coming in your next campaign, like we did the first one.).

On the one hand, the American nation, which has spiritual inclinations (75 %of Americans identify themselves as Christians.  I guess that’s an “inclination”.), expects your government to focus its energy and will on serving the people; dealing with the current economic crisis; restoring the country’s standing, morale and hope; eradicating poverty and discrimination; and renewing respect for individuals, their safety and their rights (Pay no attention to the fact that we are making Atomic Bombs.). It also expects policies that will strengthen the foundations of the family — part of the teachings of the holy prophets, who are also revered in America (You remember.  The holy prophets you studied at the Private Madrassa, err, School in Indonesia, where you grew up.).

On the other hand, the nations of the world expect an end to policies based on warmongering, invasion, bullying, trickery, the humiliation of other countries by the imposition of biased and unfair requirements, and a diplomatic approach that has bred hatred for America’s leaders and undermined respect for its people ( In other words, just leave us alone so that we can destroy all the civilized world, including America.) . They want to see actions based on justice, respect for the rights of human beings and nations, friendship and non-intervention in the affairs of others (Thanks for shutting down Gitmo and the upcoming show trials of our “freedom fighters” in American cities.  We ought to get some great publicity out of those.  Hug my man Eric Holder for me.). They want the American government to keep its interventions within its own country’s borders (We love us some Ron Paul.). 

In the sensitive Middle East region, in particular, the expectation is that the unjust actions of the past 60 years will give way to a policy encouraging full rights for all nations, especially the oppressed nations of Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan ( We approve of the way you’re dealing with Israel.  Who cares if they’ve been your loyal friend for over 60 years.  Stick that knife in their back and twist it, Barry.).

The great civilization-building and justice-seeking nation of Iran would welcome major, fair and real changes, in policies and actions, especially in this region ( It’s amazing how much demolition work can be done by just one suicide bomber.  And we give our prisoners a swift trial, followed by a first class beheading.  Sometimes, we even sharpen the blade.)

If steps are taken in the path of righteousness, toward the goal of carrying out the teachings of the holy prophets, it is hoped that almighty God will help and that the enormous damage done in the past will be somewhat diminished (You’re doing great, Barry.  Just keep that radical change coming.  Pretty soon, you’ll have America turned into the Third-rate Socialist nation that we all want it to be.).

I ask the high God to grant all of humanity and all nations health and happiness, honor and prosperity, and to grant rulers and officials the ability to learn from the past and to use every chance to serve, to spread love and kindness, to eradicate oppression, to do justice and to follow the holy guidelines. (I ask Allah to give us the strength and ability to kill all the Infidels.  Keep up the good work, Barry.  By the way, you sure are a snappy dresser.)

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

A Megalomaniac in Miami

While thousands of Americans gathered at Tea Party Events throughout America yesterday, President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmm) gave them  the following gracious (sarc)  shout-out at a Democratic National Committee Fundraising Event held in Miami, Florida.  The Magnificent One orated the following reconciliatory (sarc) words: 

I’ve been a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies about taxes, the president said, noting the numerous tax cuts pushed by his administration. You would think they’d be saying thank you.

For all the sound and fury and all the scare tactics… the law doesn’t hand more control to the government, the president said, it gives it back to you, the American people.

Obama borrowed a line from Vice President Biden, telling the audience, this is a big deal but strategically omitting the expletive Biden infamously was heard using on an open microphone just weeks ago.  Joe’s got a way with words, and he was right, it’s a big deal.

And the president challenged Republicans and others seeking to repeal health care legislation, saying, Go for it.

meg·a·lo·ma·nia:   a delusional mental disorder that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur.
 
It is an understatement to say Americans have never seen a President like this one.   Hubris hangs around this guy as thick as the ash from the Icelandic Volcano.   He truly believes that Americans should be bowing at his feet for passing the Porkulus bill, which has been a monumental failure, proposing a Federal Budget which includes $989 billion in new taxes over the course of the next 10 years, starting fiscal year 2011, most of which are tax increases on individuals, and,  by every sleazy way imaginable, ramming through the Healthcare, err, Health Insurance, err, Healthcare Reform Law, the biggest entitlement program in the history of America.
 
To say that taking more of our feedom and money away from us by means of a out-of-control Federal Government is something we should be thankful for is delusional at best, and dictatorial at worst.
 
Scooter, I hope you have some other skills.  You are way out of your league in attempting this whole Presidential man-of-the-people thing.
 
By the way, Mr. President,  I do thank Someone every day for my life and His benevolent hand in it.  And it sure “ain”t” you.  Not even close.

Declare the Pennies on Your Eyes

Before we talk about some serious stuff, allow me to share a piece of my childhood with you:

Well, here it is.  April 15th.  The day Uncle Sam takes his cut and ours, too. 

For those of you who are scrambling to get your tax forms mailed by Midnight tonight, here  are some interesting facts that should make your day even more special.

According to Associated Press:

About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability. That’s according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization.

Most people still are required to file returns by the April 15 deadline. The penalty for skipping it is limited to the amount of taxes owed, but it’s still almost always better to file: That’s the only way to get a refund of all the income taxes withheld by employers.

 This is up from 38% in 2007.

From a Tax Foundation Review of IRS Data through 2007: 

1) The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid 40.4 percent of the total income taxes collected by the federal government — the highest percentage in modern history — while the top 1 percent paid 24.8 percent of the income tax burden.

2) The share of the tax burden borne by the top 1 percent now exceeds the share paid by the bottom 95 percent of taxpayers combined. In 2007, the bottom 95 percent paid 39.4 percent of the income tax burden. This is down from the 58 percent of the total income tax burden they paid twenty years ago.

3) To put this in perspective, the top 1 percent is comprised of just 1.4 million taxpayers and they pay a larger share of the income tax burden now than the bottom 134 million taxpayers combined.

Another interesting fact from Fox and Friends this morning:  The top 5 % would have to be taxed from 77% – 91% in order to erase the Federal Deficit.

These are the people Obama wants to levy more taxes against.   How in the world would that stimulate the economy?  These are the people who generate employment.  They are also the people who have to lay off employees when their expenses exceed their revenue.  Laid-off people don’t go out to eat or shop at Walmart as much.  Nor do they take vacations. 

Now I’m wasn’t privy to an Ivy League Education like Scooter Obama was, but it seems to me that burdening the people who provide the jobs in our economy will reduce the effectiveness of America’s economic system (if unchecked through elections) until it eventually collapses, forcing the people (the Proletariat) to eventually turn  to Uncle Sugar (the Politburo) for all of their needs from cradle to grave.  This would give the magnanimous leader of the Politburo the opportunity to spread the wealth, out of concern for the welfare of the Proletariat, thereby strengthening the people’s reliance upon their benevolent Government.

That’s a nightmarish image, huh?   However, there is something that the people who want to radically change America did not count on:  the Patriotism and strength of will of just plain ol’ average Americans.  Turn on Fox News today and you’ll see them, coming together in cities throughout the land to let Scooter and all his minions know that they have had enough.  Like those Patriots who dumped the King’s tea into Boston Harbor, modern Americans will be sending the same message today, loud and clear:  Americans are fed up with a out-of-control Government.  Politicians need to pay attention or else they will find themselves out of power,  just like King George did.

A Silly Summit

The party’s over.  Those foreign dignitaries who did not fly out last night, will leave for their home countries today, probably nursing a hangover.  Over 50 nations attended Scooter’s little two-day get-together, for the purpose of reaching a consensus that nuclear weapons are bad…or something.

So, what was accomplished?  Other than the usual posturing and speechifying, not a whole heckuva lot.  Nearly 50 countries wound up endorsing his four-year goal of securing nuclear materials at risk of falling into terrorist hands.   That will make about as much difference as a Ralph Nader Campaign for President.

Csmonitor.com reminds us:

Obama originally set the four-year goal for securing loose nukes in an April 2009 speech in Prague. But it took a year simply to produce the communiqué – issued at the summit Tuesday – that includes few specifics and no enforcement mechanisms.

Then, Dinghy Harry rained on Scooter’s parade yesterday by saying that it could be 2011 before the Senate tackles the arms reduction treaty the president signed last week with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

To top it all off, Scooter got a taste of his own medicine when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu snubbed the Summit, just as he was snubbed by Obama when he came here for a serious discussion.

So, what was the purpose of  Obama’s summit?  I believe it was basically just a platform by which to pacify Scooter’s Far Left base , while at the same time assuring ou new “friends” that we “feel their pain” and humbly bow in deference to their wonderful ideologies.

Another thought that has been brought up by others this morning is how simular the Summit logo is to the flags of some of our new “friends”.  Subliminal reinforcement?

 

The best description of this Zombie Jamboree comes from the legendary Dr. Charles Krauthammer.  On Special Report last night, he called Obama’s Summit fatuous (per merriam-webster.com: complacently or inanely foolish : silly ):

What was unprecedented this week was the unprecedented use of the word “unprecedented” by the president to describe a conference which was completely fatuous. What were the accomplishments? 

Yesterday we talked about the Ukrainian uranium. Today, as Steve indicated, the big advantage is that Chile, Mexico, and Canada will now sequester highly enriched uranium. I’ve been asleep nights worrying about Canadian uranium. I grew in Canada. These people you don’t know what their capable of doing, and some of them remember the war of 1812. What was unprecedented this week was the unprecedented use of the word “unprecedented” by the president to describe a conference which was completely fatuous. Dr. Krauthammer was exactly right.  The word, fatuous, aptly describes this two-day exercise in bloviating.  In fact, it describes this entire Presidency.

A Rebirth of Conservatism.

I am a Christian American Conservative.  The trendy apellation for that is ” Social Conservative”, or “SoCon”.  At least, that seems to be  the  handle given to us by all the “cool” “super-smart” people.  What do “Social Conservatives” believe?  It depends on who you ask.   According to some of the things I’ve read on some Conservative Blogs and Facebook lately, we’ve been identified as not being too bright, very puritanical, and likely to marry our cousins. 

 About.com lists our beliefs as follows:

  • Advancing pro-life and anti-abortion stances on unwanted or unplanned pregnancies
  • Advocating for pro-family legislation and a ban on gay marriage
  • Eliminating federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research and finding alternative methods of research
  • Protecting the Second Amendment right to bear arms
  • Maintaining a strong national defense
  • Protecting US economic interests against foreign threats and eliminating the need for trade unions
  • Opposing illegal immigration
  • Limiting welfare spending by creating economic opportunities for America’s needy
  • Lifting the ban on school prayer
  • Implementing high tariffs on countries that do not uphold human rights
  • That’s a pretty good,  encompassing list.  Of course, everyone’s different and each person has their own belief system they bring to the table.  If you were raised (or reared, as we say in Dixie) in a permissive situation, then you’re going to believe, as John Lennon said, Whatever Gets You Through the Night, It’s Alright. 

     But, if you were raised by parents who instilled in you a set of moral and ethical values unphased by the shifting sands of society, that belief system will remain with you all your life.  We old fogies used to call that, knowing the difference between right and wrong.    That love of God, Country, and the concept of Freedom itself, is what is driving the Tea Party movement and the rest of the Conservative rebirth.  Beltway Business as usual, self-centered psuedo-intellectual squishiness (so-called “Moderate” Republicans), and reliance on Uncle Sugar to solve America’s problems, have gotten us where we are today.  We have a guy in the White House who doesn’t even like the country or people he’s leading.  He is an individual with a undocumented past, who is bowing to our enemies and ridiculing our friends.  He is the product of radical parents, and his sole purpose is to radically change our Free Republic into a third-rate Democratic Socialist state, whose people are dependent on their Federal Government (the Politboro) from cradle to grave.  And if you do not believe this, you obviously have not been paying attention.

    It’s time for Conservatives to man up.  We must regain that fiery passion for freedom that prompted the birth of this great nation.  In doing this, we must stand together.  Conservatives can not fight one another and expect to be victorious this November or in 2012. 

    Allow me to leave you today with a quote from the finest President of the United States in my lifetime, Ronald Reagan, who said:

    Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.

    On Whose Side?

    As President Obama (all praise be to him) begins his Nuclear Summit this week, the leaders of two countries are extremely noteworthy in their absence, Israel and Great Britain.   Having been staunch allies through the years, why are they not in attendence this week, backing us up, as friends normally do? 

    Let’s take a quick look at how the Obama Administration has treated these two long time friends since taking office.  First, the Administration gave back a bust of Sir Winston Churchill that had been sitting in the oval office for decades.  Then, they tried to squirm out of it by accepting other gifts from Britain.  How did the Brits feel about that?  I’ll let the Guardian explain: 

    In return for a pen holder carved from the timbers of the sister ship of the one the White House desk is made from and a first edition of a seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill, the Mail is appalled that “Barack Obama, the leader of the world’s richest country” gave Brown a box set of 25 DVDs selected by the American Film Institute. These, it says, include Raging Bull, Casablanca, Psycho and The Graduate. It is, the Mail says, “a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks“.

    … Was it only yesterday a commentary in the (London) Times bemoaned the supposed injustice of the Browns giving the Obama’s daughters Top Shop dresses (with matching necklaces) when all their parents gave the Brown boys were models of the presidential helicopter Marine One? Yes it was.

    And how have Scooter and his minions treated Israel?   This from FoxNews.com: 

    After failing to extract a written promise of concessions on settlements, Obama walked out of his meeting with Netanyahu but invited him to stay at the White House, consult with advisers and “let me know if there is anything new”, a U.S. congressman, who spoke to the Prime Minister, said.

     “It was awful,” the congressman said. One Israeli newspaper called the meeting “a hazing in stages”, poisoned by such mistrust that the Israeli delegation eventually left rather than risk being eavesdropped on a White House telephone line. Another said that the Prime Minister had received “the treatment reserved for the President of Equatorial Guinea”.

    Left to talk among themselves Netanyahu and his aides retreated to the Roosevelt Room. He spent a further half-hour with Obama and extended his stay for a day of emergency talks to try to restart peace negotiations.

    So who is attending?  A very long list including, representatives from Western Europe, Eastern Europe, India, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Jordan, South America, and The United Nations Administrative Body.

    So, in this bizarro-world American Foreign Policy that the Obama Administration calls Smart Power, are our enemies now our friends, and our friends now our enemies?   I feel like Sheriff J.W. Pepper, in Roger Moore’s first movie as James Bond Agent 007, Live and let Die: 

     A spy?  On whose side?

      

    The Obama Administration is naive at best and treasonous at worst.   Where will the foreign policy of this out-of-control Administration lead us?   I think this video sums it up best, buckaroos.

    Just a Clump of Cells? Hardly.

    I was born three days before my mother’s 40th birthday.  To say I was a surprise is an understatement.  I truly believe that they were going to name me “oops”.   That being said, I am truly grateful that God convicted them regarding the sanctity of the life that my mother was carrying within her. 

    Prior to 1973, abortions were allowed in some states but restricted or almost banned in others. Every state legislature made their own decision on whether to allow abortions and under what circumstances.  There was no Federal Law in regards to abortion.   Then, in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court gave us Roe v. Wade. It declared a Texas anti-abortion statute unconstitutional and, in doing so, affected abortion laws in many other states.

    The Supreme Court justices ruled that, throughout the U.S.:

    • During the first three months of pregnancy, a woman and her physician may jointly decide to terminate a pregnancy. No significant state interference is allowed.
    • Later in pregnancy, states can restrict abortion access with laws but only if they are intended to protect the woman’s health.
    • Once the fetus is viable, an abortion must still be available if the woman’s health or life are at risk. State governments are free to pass legislation that will allow or prohibit late-term abortions — those on a viable fetus — for other reasons.

    The new Obamanation of a Healthcare Reform, err, Health Insurance Reform, err, Healthcare Reform Bill that has just been passed says the following about abortions: 

    Federal premium or costsharing subsidies may not be used to purchase coverage for abortion if coverage extends beyond saving the life of the woman or in cases of rape or incest. If an individual who receives federal assistance purchases coverage in a plan that chooses to cover abortion services beyond those for which federal funds are permitted, those federal subsidy funds (for premiums or costsharing) must not be used for the purchase of the abortion coverage and must be segregated from private premium payments or state funds.  

    At least two lawsuits have been filed challenging the new healthcare law on religious grounds.

    One was filed by a Michigan-based group, the Thomas More Law Center. The other was filed on behalf of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., which was founded by the late Jerry Falwell.

    Both groups oppose abortion and take the stance that forcing individuals to participate in a healthcare system that supports abortionsis in violation of their First Amendment right to freely follow their sincerely held religious beliefs. It will be interesting to see how these lawsuits progress.

    Regarding the issue of abortion itself, the  latest arguments that you hear from the pro-abortion crowd are like this one from atheism.about.com: 

    Whether the fetus is declared a person from a scientific, religious, or legal perspective, this would not necessarily mean that abortion is wrong. A woman could assert a right to control her body such that even if the fetus is a person, it has no legal claim to use it. Could an adult claim a right to being hooked up to someone’s body? No — it might not be ethical to refuse the use of one’s body to save the life of another, but it couldn’t be forced by the law.

    And from Salon.com:

    The attempt to change the vocabulary around embryos is part of a larger strategy to elevate the fetus to ‘personhood’ under the 14th Amendment — and an effort to overturn Roe,” says Suzanne Martinez, vice president for public policy at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

    Relative ethics and morality sure make self-deluded attempts at logic easier, don’t they?

    Here are some thoughts from The Book provided by The Author of Life:

    Did not He who made me in the womb make him, And the same one fashion us in the womb? (Job 31:15)

    Yet Thou art He who didst bring me forth from the womb; Thou didst make me trust when upon my mother’s breasts. Upon Thee I was cast from birth; Thou hast been my God from my mother’s womb. (Psalm 22:9-10)

    For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Thy book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. (Psalm 139:13-16)

    Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you, `Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; And you Jeshurun whom I have chosen. (Isaiah 44:2)

    Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, “I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, And spreading out the earth all alone, (Isaiah 44:24)

    “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

    Why,  even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not;  you are of more value than many sparrows.”(Luke 12:7 )

    From the scientific perspective, Dr. Carlo Bellieni, in his book “Dawn of the I: Pain, Memory, Desire, Dream of the Fetus,” says:

    As soon as it is born, the child shows in a scientifically demonstrable way that it recognizes its mother’s voice and distinguishes it from that of a stranger. Where has he learned that voice other than in the maternal womb?

    There are also direct proofs. For example, we register how the movements and cardiac frequency of the fetus vary if we transmit unexpected sounds through the uterine wall. And we see that at first the fetus is startled, then it gets used to it, just like we do when we hear something that does not interest us.

    In fact, the scientific evidence is immense. We cannot understand how it can be thought that it becomes a person at a certain point, perhaps when coming out of the uterus.

    From the physical point of view, at the birth very little really changes: Air enters the lungs, the arrival of blood from the placenta is interrupted, the type of circulation of blood in the heart changes, and not much more.

    As I often say, only blind faith in magic arts or some strange divinity can lead one to think that there is a “human” quality leap at a given moment — certainly not science.

    I know that there are some of you that read my blog that are non-believers.  For you and for my Christian brothers and sisters, I offer the following closing thoughts: 

    There is a curious unique enzyme found in the human body.   Laminin is defined by the Webster Medical Dictionary as a “glycoprotein that is a component of connective tissue basement membrane and that promotes cell adhesion.”  In other words, a glue within the body.

    Colossians 1:15-17 tells us:

    15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
