The Effort to Redefine “Conservatism”

reaganAs we enter the fourth month of Barack Hussein Obama’s (mm mmm mmmm) Second Term as President of the United States, I have noticed something that is both puzzling and troubling to me.

Actually, it is something that I noticed starting to gain steam as the Presidential Primaries started kicking into gear: a serious effort to redefine Conservatism to mean “wanting a government which doesn’t blow all my money and leaves me alone, so that I can do what I want do, regardless of how it effects others around me”.

On the internet, these believers express themselves in various terms, which all translate to the same thing: Fiscally Conservative, Socially Liberal.

Their common goal is a desire to redefine the definition of Conservatism in order to make them feel better about their non-Conservative, and oft times, downright hedonistic,  social ideology.

You’ll find these same individuals on Internet Chat Boards, complaining about how narrow-minded and statist Reagan Conservatives, like myself, are.

And, God help you if you tell them that there is such a thing as morality and ethics. They will tell you that you”re nothing but a busybody who wants to meddle in people’s private lives  and take away their “freedom”.

They insist that the only way for the Republicans to win anything at all in 2014 and 2016, is to forget the antiquated ideology of Reagan (Social) Conservatism.

You know, that whole God and Country Bit that I always talk about.

Evidently,to these folks, good, old-fashioned American Faith, Values, and Ethics are just that…old-fashioned.

That’s funny. Down here in Mississippi, that is how we live our lives. We love God. We love our country. We love our family and friends…and, we look out for one another.

Mississippi is not the only state like that. All the states in the Heartland of America, share the same Classic American Values and Beliefs

That’s why the President is still out campaigning. He can’t overcome them.

Look at how all of the National Issues which he and all of his ideological forces have been so feverishly trying to ram down our throats, homosexual marriage, amnesty for illegal immigrants, the legalization of marijuana, and gun confiscation, have stalled.

No matter how much Progressive Propaganda is unleashed upon the American Citizenry, Conservatives in America’s Heartland are standing firm, solid in their beliefs, still “bitterly clinging to their Bibles and guns”.

No matter how many rigged polls  and slanted news stories are thrown at us, we will not be moved.

Concerning those who believe that being a Conservative only hinges on your Fiscal Ideology…

J. Matt Barber wrote in the Washington Times that

Ronald Reagan often spoke of a “three-legged stool” that undergirds true conservatism. The legs are represented by a strong defense, strong free-market economic policies and strong social values. For the stool to remain upright, it must be supported by all three legs. If you snap off even one leg, the stool collapses under its own weight.

A Republican, for instance, who is conservative on social and national defense issues but liberal on fiscal issues is not a Reagan conservative. He is a quasi-conservative socialist.

A Republican who is conservative on fiscal and social issues, but liberal on national defense issues is not a Reagan conservative. He is a quasi-conservative dove.

By the same token, a Republican who is conservative on fiscal and national defense issues but liberal on social issues – such as abortion, so-called gay rights or the Second Amendment – is not a Reagan conservative. He is a socio-liberal libertarian.

Put another way: A Republican who is one part William F. Buckley Jr., one part Oliver North and one part Rachel Maddow is no true conservative. He is – well, I’m not exactly sure what he is, but it ain’t pretty.

At the Forth Annual Conservative Political Action Committee Convention in 1977, Ronald Reagan said,

The principles of conservatism are sound because they are based on what men and women have discovered through experience in not just one generation or a dozen, but in all the combined experience of mankind. When we conservatives say that we know something about political affairs, and that we know can be stated as principles, we are saying that the principles we hold dear are those that have been found, through experience, to be ultimately beneficial for individuals, for families, for communities and for nations — found through the often bitter testing of pain, or sacrifice and sorrow.

One thing that must be made clear in post-Watergate is this: The American new conservative majority we represent is not based on abstract theorizing of the kind that turns off the American people, but on common sense, intelligence, reason, hard work, faith in God, and the guts to say: “Yes, there are things we do strongly believe in, that we are willing to live for, and yes, if necessary, to die for.” That is not “ideological purity.” It is simply what built this country and kept it great.

So, if your stated political ideology is one of those listed above, by not differing from them in your Social Ideology, and fighting against Reagan Conservatives, in your own Party, like me, which you have so derisively named “True Conservatives”, aren’t you being unwitting dupes for the Progressives?

Even the Progressives claim to be “Fiscally Responsible”.

Not to be rude, but, a one-legged stool is awfully hard to stand on.

Has America Gone From Sheriff Taylor to Deputy Fife?

sheriffandytaylorobamabarneyfyfeAs I sit down to write this, an enemy of America stands poised  (supposedly) to launch a merciless attack against us.

According to a spokesperson for the North Korean military, war could break out “today or tomorrow”.

Meanwhile, Obama and his Administration started scrambling like a high school student who waited until 10 the night before to study for a test, as they made plans to send ground-based interceptors to Guam and dispatching two Aegis class destroyers to the region.

Things had also gotten tense at the North’s heavily-armed border with South Korea, after Kim Jong-Un’s wackadoodle regime barred South Koreans from entering a Seoul-funded joint industrial park on its side of the frontier.

The Korean People’s Army general staff warned through Korea’s news agency that US threats would be “smashed by… cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means”.

The merciless operation of our revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified.

Just last month, North Korea threatened a “pre-emptive” nuclear strike against the United States, and last week its supreme army command ordered strategic rocket units to combat status.

Even though Korea has successfully carried out test nuclear detonations, most experts think it is not yet capable of mounting a device on a ballistic missile capable of striking US bases or territory.

There still could be trouble on the North/South Border, though.

The White House was swift to react to Pyongyang’s latest “unhelpful and unconstructive threats”…by issuing veiled threats of their own.

According to National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden,

It is yet another offering in a long line of provocative statements that only serve to further isolate North Korea from the rest of the international community and undermine its goal of economic development. North Korea should stop its provocative threats and instead concentrate on abiding by its international obligations.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel remarked after a strategy speech at the National Defense Agency,

They have nuclear capacity now, they have missile delivery capacity now. We take those threats seriously, we have to take those threats seriously. We are doing everything we can, working with the Chinese and others, to defuse that situation on the peninsula.

As America gears up for a possible war, I’m reminded of another stand-off between a previous President (one who actually loved this country) and another bunch of communists.

The crucial role of leadership in any war, including a cold one, is demonstrated by the example of Ronald Reagan.

The Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky was in an eight-by-ten foot cell in a Siberian prison in early 1983 when his Soviet jailers permitted him to read the latest issue of Pravda, the official Communist Party newspaper.

Splashed across the front page, Sharansky recalled, was a condemnation of Reagan for calling the Soviet Union an “evil empire.” Tapping on the walls and talking through toilets, political prisoners spread the word of Reagan’s “provocation.” The dissidents were ecstatic. Finally, Sharansky wrote, the leader of the free world had spoken the truth–a truth that burned inside the heart of each and every one of us.

Lech Walesa, the founder of the Solidarity movement that brought down Communism in Poland and prepared the way for the end of Communism throughout Eastern and Central Europe, put his feelings about Reagan simply: “We in Poland…owe him our liberty.”

So too do the many millions who lived behind the Iron Curtain and were caught up in one of the longest conflicts in history–the Cold War–which, because of leaders like Ronald Reagan, ended in victory for the forces of freedom.

Back then, we knew, just as sure as Sheriff Andy Taylor always looked out for and protected the interests of the citizens of Mayberry, President Ronald Reagan would look out for and protect us.

The problem we face, now, is that an appeaser, Barack Hussein Obama, is responsible for our protection and well-being. Obama is our own version of  Deputy Barney Fife…without Barney’s redeeming qualities.

Just like Iran baited President Jimmy Carter, and continuously called his bluff, so have our present enemies rattled their sabers at “The Great Satan”/”The Agressor”.

Remember when President Reagan sent a guided missle into Moammar Gadhafi’s bedroom? We didn’t hear a peep out of that despot for 25 years, after that.

Perhaps, President Obama should do the same in this circumstance.

That is, if he is not too busy “reaching out” to him, like he has to the murderous Muslim Brotherhood.

Gun Control: Hey, UN…Molon Labe

guncontrolThere are several times, during my musings, that I have described our blessed country as a sovereign nation. What does that mean?

It means that we are an “independent state”, completely independent and self-governing. We bow to no other country on God’s green Earth. We are beholden to no other nation. America stands on its own, with our own set of laws , The Constitution of the United States.

And, that is what makes the following news, disturbing.

Yesterday, in the modern-day Tower of Babylon, known as the United Nations, a sweeping, first-of-its-kind treaty to regulate the international arms trade was passed by the delegates. oblivious to worries from U.S. gun rights advocates that this agreement could be the precursor to a national firearms registry.

The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) requires countries to regulate and control the export of weaponry such as battle tanks, combat vehicles and aircraft and attack helicopters, as well as parts and ammunition for such weapons. It also provides that participating countries will not violate arms embargoes, international treaties regarding illicit trafficking, or sell weaponry to countries for genocide, crimes against humanity or other war crimes.

With the unwavering support of Obama and his Administration, the General Assembly vote totaled 155 to 3, with 22 abstentions. Iran, Syria and North Korea voted against it.

The problem with the treaty is that is positively porous, due to all of the loopholes contained in it. The list of controlled weaponry in it includes “small arms and light weapons”. Of course, the U.N. claims that the pact is meant to regulate only cross-border trade and would have no impact on domestic U.S. laws and markets.

This reassurancecomes from the same bunch who equates Zionism to Racism.

On the bright side, in its budget debate late last month, the Senate approved a non-binding amendment opposing the treaty offered by Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican, with eight Democrats joining all 45 Republicans backing the amendment.

Per Sen. Inhofe,

It’s time the Obama Administration recognizes [the treaty] is already a non-starter, and Americans will not stand for internationalists limiting and infringing upon their Constitutional rights. Furthermore, this treaty could also disrupt diplomatic and national security efforts by preventing our government from assisting allies like Taiwan, South Korea or Israel when they require assistance.

Amnesty International was doing back-flips of joy over the signing of the treaty…

The voices of reason triumphed over skeptics, treaty opponents and dealers in death to establish a revolutionary treaty that constitutes a major step toward keeping assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons out of the hands of despots and warlords who use them to kill and maim civilians, recruit child soldiers and commit other serious abuses,” said Frank Jannuzi, deputy executive director of Amnesty International USA.

AI is an International Human Rights Group which presents itself as an ideologically disinterested and apolitical organization. According to Amnesty International, it

does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.

The lion’s share of Amnesty International’s criticism is usually directed at the United States. In the 1980s AI joined leftist non-governmental organizations like the Church World Service and Americas Watch in loud opposition to the Reagan administration’s support for the Contra resistance movement against Nicaragua’s Communist dictatorship.

In more recent years, AI has emerged as a vocal critic of the U.S.-led War on Terror, opposing especially the American-led invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

My question is, what legitimate right does the United Nations and any of the countries therein, have to “make rulings” affecting the Second Amendment of the United States Contitution and us American citizens who are protected under it?

Steven Groves, writing for Heritage.org, said it very well,

The proper exercise of diplomacy by the United States does not threaten our sovereignty. The Founding Fathers understood the value of diplomacy. They drafted the Constitution, in part, because they wanted the United States to be able to negotiate treaties with other nations. But they also understood that American foreign policy must ultimately be controlled by the American people.

That is why, for instance, the United States Senate must approve treaties that are negotiated by the President. That is how our diplomatic process works. But today, American sovereignty is threatened by the many treaties that seek to take power away from the nations that negotiate them. The solution is not to reject treaties or diplomacy: it is to return to the vision of the Founders, and to their belief that the American people have an inherent right of self-government, through their elected representatives, that cannot be extinguished by any treaty.

The drafters of the Declaration would be surprised to find Americans submitting themselves to these international organizations, and the constraints on independence that they have spawned. The United States may, of course, work with other nations in a principled way that advances its national interests. But the Founders would be amazed by the extent and depth of the threats to American sovereignty posed by this new transnationalist vision.

The Founders did not risk their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor casting off the rule of King George III so that, two hundred years later, the United States could subject itself to the whims of unelected foreign bureaucrats and international lawyers. Sovereignty was essential to the founding of America in 1776, and it is essential to America today.

By declaring its independence from King George III and the British Parliament, America declared its sovereignty. By dedicating itself to the principles of liberty, equality, and popular consent, it set the standard by which all sovereign nations are to be judged.

This Administration seems bound and determined to make America into just another nation, assigning American Exceptionalism to the trash heap of  history.

Their pure ignorance to America’s place in the world is overwhelming. Only by standing up to the thug nations represented at the UN, will America be respected, and left alone, as the sovereign nation that we are.

Obama’s bowing and scraping, like a leader of a country who occupied a subservient position to nations filled with barbarians, who would slit every American’s throat, if given the chance, is an stunning example of this naivete and downright ignorance.

Obama Lays an Egg

obamabasketballYesterday, the White House held its annual Easter Egg Roll.

Among the “attractions” at this year’s photo op were the Easter Bunny, the First Dog Bo, (Which is what the other set of grandparents call my 5 year old grandson, Robert. Hey, it’s a Mississippi thang.) there were also characters by the name of Colby Carrot and Erica Eggplant.

What do vegetables have to do Easter? Were they there for the Easter Bunny’s lunch?

No. Actually they were there for Mooch’s (First Lady Michelle Obama) benefit. This woman (who takes 2 trips to haul you-know-what) urged the kiddies to have fun and “run around,” and “to learn something about nutrition and exercise”.

In fact, the theme of this year’s Egg Roll had nothing to do at all with Easter. It was

Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!

Mooch told the children,

We want you guys to have a good time and keep moving and be healthy. And, kids, eat your vegetables, okay?

Over 30,000 attended the choreographed event. Among those attending, were relatives of some of the children who were murdered by a psychopath during the Dec. 14 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The White House did not provide names, citing privacy concerns.

Obama continues to use the Newtown Tragedy as a Political Opportunity to take away the guns from average-American citizens. Of course, no mention has been made by Obama and his minions concerning the hundred of youths who rioted in the streets of Chicago on Saturday.

“This was a planned attack,” community activist Andrew Holmes told ABC Chicago. “You had these many people down here and that many people just running from one side of the street, jumping on people on the east side, then they come back on the west side and jump on the people.”

More than two dozen teens were arrested during the chaotic melee.

“You have over 300 to 400 teenagers with mob action, jumping on individuals that are downtown,” community activist Andrew Holmes told NBC Chicago.

Police booked 25 juveniles and three adults on misdemeanor reckless conduct and battery charges for purposefully knocking into and jumping on pedestrians during the “mob action.”

At around 6 p.m., hundreds of misbehaved teenagers swarmed in on the Windy City’s Magnificent Mile shopping district that runs along Michigan Avenue, near Chicago Avenue.

“You have over 300 to 400 teenagers with mob action, jumping on individuals that are downtown,” Holmes, who was in the area shopping with family, told NBC Chicago. He said he also witnessed a mounted police officer being assaulted by the teens.

Obama would tell you,

It’s not the yutes’ fault. It’s those darn guns, I tell you.

That is, if he had the guts to bring it up in the first place. But, I digress…

A featured attraction at the Easter Egg Roll, was supposed to be the thrill of watching The Lightbringer display his basketball prowess, by shooting hoops at a basketball goal which his minions had set up on the White House Lawn.

Unfortunately, for the Manchurian President…hilarity ensued.

POTUS stepped to free throw line and kids were asked to stand on opposite sides, depending on whether they think he would sink it. Most kids moved in one direction, but one boy went to the “miss” side.”Oh, man,” a stunned POTUS said, hands on hips. The boy didn’t budge. And three others joined.In sharp form, POTUS released the ball. It bounced off the rim and circled it — miss.”Come on. Come on. Did you see that?” Obama said.It got worse.A little while later, after playing tennis, Obama started to take shots amid the kids and pros. Miss. Miss. Off the rim. Miss. Miss. Off the rim. Airball. He moved closer to the net.But time and again, he missed. Of 22 shots POTUS took, he made two. (22 was general consensus of poolers)At one point, POTUS handed a ball to a boy and asked for help. The boy made the layup.”He couldn’t make one. I had to help him out,” said Kahron Campbell, 10, of Landover, MD.

Being a product of a Memphis upbringing, basketball runs through my veins. It all started in elementary, when I played on a team, then in ninth grade, when the legendary University of Memphis player, Larry Finch, became my student coach the year they lost the National Championship to Bill Walton and UCLA (’72-’73). I later went on to coach my own forth grade squad, while in college at the U of M, and , later, at 36, I coached and played for my church team. My record as a coach is 25-4, with 2 league championships.

Basketball is a metaphor for any tasks you might attempt in life. 

One of the things you learn in basketball, is that…

If the plays aren’t working, you must re-adjust the game plan. 

Every great basketball player knows that when your plays aren’t working you have to adjust, and then adjust some more. The varying strengths and styles of different opponents require different tactics. You have to be able to withstand and adjust to whichever attacks an opponent uses on you.

Just like the game of basketball, life presents us with many challenges for which we must adjust our game plan.

And, just as Obama failed miserably, in his attempt to show off his skills as a basketball player, so has he failed miserably during his tenure as the President of the United States.

He has gained a reputation as being the most -out-of-touch, narcissistic, socialist, prevaricating, petulant President this nation has yet to endure.

Perhaps it is time to Obama to change his game plan.

Obamacare Gets Personal

obamadoctorI hope that all of you had a blessed Easter Sunday with your family. I know that I did. My step-son, daughter-in-law, and 5 year old grandson, came over for honey-baked ham and scalloped potatoes.

I was glad to see them and to get to spend time with them and to get a chance to talk to my steep-son. He was let go, last Thursday, from the trucking company he worked for. He had consistently been one of their top drivers for over a year. However, that wasn’t enough. You see, his company, which is run out of the great White North, is slowing eliminating all of their company drivers, in favor of owner-operators.

The reason? The coming of Obamacare.

The 2012 National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans, predicts that the average per-employee cost of health coverage will rise about 6.5 percent in 2013 and that 58 percent of employers surveyed have already made plans to shift costs to their employees to reduce the hit that they will take.

Even though the study found that while very few employers anticipate canceling their health benefit plans after reform is fully implemented, smaller employers are nearly three times as likely to say they will. When asked whether they plan to end their employee health coverage in five years, after Obamacare is fully implemented, 16 percent of smaller employers (between 10 and 499 employees) said they probably would end their employee health plans. Only 6 percent of bigger companies claimed that they would cancel coverage once insurance exchanges go online and individual mandates and employer penalties become effective. (The penalties won’t apply to companies with fewer than 50 employees.)

Although Obamacare is not supposed to go into full effect until 2014, several aspects of it are due to swing into effect in 2013:

Exchange enrollment. Open enrollment for individual and small business health insurance exchanges begins Oct. 1, 2013. “Exchanges are probably the most important provision of health-care reform for small businesses because they will help lower costs and improve choice of plans,” says Erin Musgrave, communications director at Small Business Majority, an advocacy group that has pushed for health-care reform.

States have until the middle of November 2012 to declare whether they will operate their own exchanges or default to exchanges operated by the federal government. There is some question about how many states will have their exchanges ready for business by the Jan. 1, 2014, target date. The exchanges will allow individuals and small businesses with up to 100 employees to shop for qualified health insurance coverage online, using a one-stop option.

Tax implications. As in recent years, dating to tax year 2010, eligible employers that provide health coverage will again get a tax credit for up to 35 percent of their contribution toward employee insurance. The credit is calculated based on average wages and number of employees; it goes up to 50 percent for tax year 2014.

High-income individuals. For singles with modified adjusted gross income over $200,000 and married taxpayers with $250,000 MAGI, a 3.8 percent Medicare contribution tax will apply for tax year 2013 to investment income, including interest, dividends, annuities, royalties and rents.

W-2 reporting. Tax form W-2s issued in January 2013 for wages paid in 2012 must for the first time include a line showing the benefit employees receive from their employer-sponsored health care. The provision is an attempt to make health-care benefits and spending more transparent. Small companies may face an increase in their W-2 preparation costs to cover gathering that information and reporting it, Starkman says.

After this report was issed, the Obama Administration gave the states until December 14th of last year to declare for the Healthcare Exchanges. When the dust settled 26 states told the Administration to get lost, refusing to install Obmamcare in their states. That forces the Administration to scramble to run those exchanges, themselves.

That brings another problem.

If the White House can’t get their act together, and build these exchanges, it could mean that some of the states which opted out will not have an exchange in place by Oct. 1, 2013, the deadline for all exchanges to be operational.

The folks who wrote Obamacare did not foresee the states standing up to them, as demonstrated by the fact that there is no language in the law to address the possibility.

While Uncle Sugar has enough of our money to build these exchanges, they will have a rough time working with the different health insurance rules and regulations in each state, which have been set in place by the individual health insurance commissioners over several decades.

Another problem is one of the Obama Administration’s own device.

The law was written specifically to provide that a health-insurance exchange run by a state is eligible to receive subsidies from the federal government, but it does not state that an exchange run by the Department of Health and Human Services is eligible to receive the same money.

For now, the IRS is ignoring this fact, but someone eventually may mount a legal challenge over the issue, leaving the matter up to the courts to decide.

Meanwhile, businesses, such as the Trucking Company who just let my step-son go, will continue to lay off workers as they coping with this horrible economy and the upcoming mandates that will be forced upon them by Obamacare.

What a fiasco.

“Endowed By Their Creator”

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

When does our Right to Life begin? When we are conceived? When we are delivered?

If you haven’t heard this story, yet…y’all ain’t gonna believe this!

Down in Florida, state legislators were holding committee hearings in consideration of a bill which would require abortionists to provide medical care to an infant who survives an abortion.

Well, their jaws hit the floor when a Planned Parenthood official endorsed the right to post-birth abortion.

A lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, Alisa LaPolt Snow, testified that the ghouls she works for believe the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor.

“So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief,” said Rep. Jim Boyd. “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

“We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician,” said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.

Rep. Daniel Davis then asked Snow, “What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”

“I do not have that information,” Snow replied. “I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”

Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, “You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”

Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”

“I think that at that point the patient would be the child struggling on the table, wouldn’t you agree?” asked Oliva.

“That’s a very good question. I really don’t know how to answer that,” Snow said. “I would be glad to have some more conversations with you about this.”

Back on August 28, 2008, the National Right to Life Committee published the following…

Senator Barack Obama and his campaign staff have made many conflicting claims in an attempt to “explain” his opposition in 2001, 2002, and 2003, while an Illinois state senator, to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, legislation to provide legal protection for babies who are born alive during abortions. The language of the Illinois bills was very similar to the language of the federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act (BAIPA), which was first introduced in Congress in 2000 and enacted into law in 2002. This document provides short rebuttals to a number of the often-shifting Obama claims. Assertion: On many occasions beginning in 2004, and as recently as August 13, 2008, Obama and his official spokespersons said that Obama opposed the Illinois Born-Alive Infants Protection Act because it lacked a one-sentence “neutrality clause” that was added to the federal BAIPA before it was enacted, and that he would have voted for the federal bill (if he had been a U.S. senator when it passed) because it contained the “neutrality clause.” This “neutrality clause” read as follows: “Nothing in this section [that is, the entire bill] shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being ‘born alive’ as defined in this section.” Obama said that such a clause prevented the federal law from conflicting with Roe v. Wade (a revealing argument, which is explored in detail below). For example, on August 13, 2008, the Chicago Tribune received a “Fact Check” from the Obama campaign that asserted “there are major differences in state and federal bills, including the fact that the federal bill included a ‘neutrality clause’.”

Response: In the first place, the original federal BAIPA introduced in 2000 was only two sentences long — it merely defined as a legal person any human, “at any stage of development,” who achieves “the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother” and then shows signs of life (heartbeat, breathing, or “definite movement of voluntary muscles”). This bill, which received initial approval from the U.S. House of Representatives 380-15 in late 2000, said nothing in either direction about the legal status of a human prior to birth. Therefore the “neutrality clause,” added in 2001, simply made explicit what had originally been clear if implicit– that this bill dealt only with the rights of babies who had already been born alive. Yet, starting during his 2004 race for the U.S. Senate, Obama himself insisted that the purported lack of a “neutrality clause” in the state BAIPA was all-important.

That is why it was of considerable significance when the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) uncovered, and publicly released on August 11, 2008, three documents that proved that on March 13, 2003, Obama, as chairman of the Illinois Senate Health and Human Services Committee, actually presided over a committee meeting at which the original state Born-Alive Infants Protection Act (SB 1082) was revised to make it virtually identical to the federal law — including the addition of exactly the same “neutrality clause.” (To see the exact language of the original bill, next to the final language of the bill that Obama killed, refer to the last page of this document.) Yet, immediately after that change was made, Obama voted against the amended bill, and it was defeated on a party-line vote, 6-4. In other words, Obama led the way in killing a bill that was virtually identical to the federal law — the federal law that, since 2004, he has insisted he would have voted for if he’d had the chance.

Despite the proof released by NRLC, the Obama campaign continued to misrepresent these events. For example, on August 13, 2008, the Obama campaign submitted to the Chicago Tribune (among others) a chart that purported to contrast the “2003 Legislation That Obama Opposed” with the “Federal Legislation That Obama Would Have Supported” — and this chart falsely claimed that the “neutrality clause” was a “failed amendment, not included in final [state] legislation.” On August 16, 2008, when David Brody of CBN News asked Obama (on camera) about the NRLC charges, Obama said that we were “lying.” He repeated his claim that he would have been “fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported — which was to say — that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born — even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”

On August 25, 2008, the independent group FactCheck.org (www.factcheck.org) issued a review of this question that concluded, “Obama’s claim is wrong. In fact, by the time the HHS Committee voted on the bill, it did contain language identical to the federal act. . . . The documents from the NRLC support the group’s claims that Obama is misrepresenting the contents of SB 1082.”

It is any wonder that the previously mentioned  horrible woman so freely admitted that murdering babies was alright?

She is supported by the Leader of the Free World.

I believe that our nation and our leaders should realize that you cannot mock God. With actions come consequences. You know, that “cause and effect” thingy that “the Smart people” are so found of bringing up.

Each and every life is precious to The Creator. That baby growing in her womb, is not the property of the mother. Each and every one of us belong to the One who made us. He is our Sovereign Lord.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you…

All those who believe that “it is a woman’s right to choose”…think too highly of themselves.

For every life is a Gift from The Creator to be loved and cherished, as He first loved us.

You Say You Want an Evolution…

demrepA very strange phenomenon has been occurring, involving Capitol Hill Politicians…on both sides of the aisle.

The people who owe their livelihoods to us are doing an about-face in their views on the core principles which got them elected to office in the first place. It doesn’t matter what political promises were made on the campaign trail to the folks back home.

However, they’re not just simply changing their minds. They’re evolving. Republicans are evolving into Democrats and Democrats are evolving into socialists.

A social/cultural evolution, if you will.

I would say, let the professional politicians make fools of themselves, and throw themselves and whatever principles they have left into the Potomac River. The only problem is…they’re taking us with them.

For example…

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, is “evolving” on the issue of gay marriage, but she has stopped short of joining the other senator from Alaska, Mark Begich, D-Alaska, in endorsing it.

Following an address at the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, she said, “The term ‘evolving view’ has been perhaps overused, but I think it is an appropriate term for me to use,” Murkowski said, according to the Chugiak-Eagle River Star. “I think it’s important to acknowledge that there is a change afoot in this country in terms of how marriage is viewed.”

Murkowski said she is reviewing her stance on the issue.

“It may be that Alaska will come to revisit its position on gay marriage, and as a policy maker I am certainly reviewing that very closely,” Murkowski said, indicating that she had spoken to her two sons about the issue.

“I’ve got two young sons who, when I ask them and their friends how they feel about gay marriage, kinda give me one of those looks like, ‘Gosh mom, why are you even asking that question?’”

In an interview with Alaska Public radio she expanded even more, indicating a softening of the issue.

“I think you are seeing a change in attitude, change in tolerance, I guess, and an acceptance that what marriage should truly be about is a lasting, loving, committed relationship with respect to the individual,” Murkowski said.

If she does flip, she would joined Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, as the only other Republican senator to back same-sex marriage. Begich, the Democratic junior senator from Alaska, flipped and endorsed same-sex marriage earlier this week.

Murkowski spokesperson Matthew Felling confirmed to ABC News that Murkowski’s views are the same as what she told the Alaska media and that she does not currently support gay marriage, but that she is reviewing the issue.

In 1998, Alaska passed an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

Evidently, those brilliant minds that are up there breathing the heady air of the Beltway, simply have no choice but to evolve…away from the beliefs of their constituency.

The Guardian (UK) thinks that the Republicans should go squish…when they walk. Of course, Sharia Law is taking over the United Kingdom.

The one area where moderates are increasingly willing to speak up in a consistent way is on social issues. I used to live in the region that Dent represents. It’s certainly conservative area, but, increasingly, I would hear voters say something to the effect of, “I’m fiscally conservative, but and socially liberal or libertarian.” In other words, their economic beliefs lean Republican, their social values Democratic.

The fiscal issues and desire for a “smaller government” would often win out when it came time to vote, but it was notable that there was a growing acceptance – or at least tolerance – on issues like gay marriage. As Dent says:

“I hear from a lot of younger people who identify that way. There’s certainly room in the party for people like that – or there should be.”

It might explain why Dent has been one of the more vocal House Republicans supporting the Violence Against Women Act.

Moderate congressmen and governors can have a real impact on policy right now. They hold more power than they realize, and they might actually be able to change their party for the better. It starts with speaking up.

So what is all of this “evolving”into squishy mounds of Jello getting Republicans? The eternal gratitude of the Democrats, that’s what. Michael Tomasky of The Daily Beast has some advice for the GOP:

Moderate Republicans, and even mainstream conservative Republicans who want to see Washington function again, should get together to form and fund a network of organizations that will pursue four goals:

First, just make moderate Republicanism visible again. Launch a public-awareness campaign. Get a television show. Or at least get a stable of people to go on the other shows. Let Americans know that the viewpoint even exists.

Second, start an organization to recruit young people, activists of all ages, and potential candidates. Start college campus clubs and newspapers or magazines. Host big conferences in Washington and elsewhere. Give people a sense of an extant community.

Third, start running some primaries against some hard-right people in districts where victory is possible. Admittedly, there are many states and districts where there’s no chance in blazes that a moderate could beat a conservative. Many state parties have been captured lock, stock, and barrel by the Tea Party, even in liberal states (Maine). But there are some places where moderates could win. And the Tea Party may be fading.

Fourth, set up a big think tank in Washington to advance more moderate policy ideas and, just as importantly, to urge moderation in tactics as well—that is, more civility, such that every single vote isn’t a matter of warfare.

 

By moving toward Moderation and “Fiscal Conservatism only” (and, not much of that) Republicans are becoming lemmings, following the Democratic Party straight over the cliff.

I say that it’s time that the Republican Party turns back to what won them elections: Conservatism.

Back in 1979, the Iranian Hostage Crisis was all over the news. President Carter could do nothing to stop it. Americans were beaten down with insecurity and malaise. Sound familiar?

They were waiting for someone to tell them what they needed to hear.  That man was Ronald Reagan.  He told Americans that it was okay to believe in themselves again.  He proudly declared that the United States was a “shining city on a hill” whose best days were still ahead. The usual pseudo-intellectuals labelled him as too extreme and simplistic. The American people decided not to listen to them.   Reagan defeated Carter in a landslide, winning 44 million votes, or 50.7 percent, and 489 electoral votes to Carter’s 35.5 million votes, or 41 percent, and only 44 electoral votes. It put a sudden halt to the out-of-control locomotive that Franklin Roosevelt rode toward ever-bigger government and tore asunder FDR’s political coalition that had smothered the politics of America for most of the previous half-century.

Reagan never forgot who he was and where he came from. That is what endeared him to the majority of Americans.  On Election Day, when  a journalist asked Reagan what Americans saw in him, he asked:

Would you laugh if I told you that I think, maybe, they see themselves and that I’m one of them? ”I’ve never been able to detach myself or think that I, somehow, am apart from them.

Compare that statement to those of the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  I dare you.

He was the oldest person ever elected president for a first term, but in the end Americans didn’t seem to mind because he was in such good health and looked much younger than his 68 years.  From the start, this humble man made his intentions very clear.  He would roll back communism where possible, strengthen national defense, cut taxes, and stop or slow the growth of government. Many disagreed with the details of his policies, but they accepted the direction he was setting and liked his positive, decisive leadership.

It was not coincidental that President Reagan’s rise in politics happened at the same time as the ascension of the religious right, the term given to millions of Christian Conservative voters who held the balance of power in many states.   Under Reagan,these people, like myself, became much more active in politics.

That is what is needed now. Strong Conservative Leadership. Reagan-esqe, three-legged stool Conservative Leadership.

Now, that would be evolution.

Americans deserve nothing less.

Sarah Palin: The Re-emergence of the Arctic Fox

pailinbiggulp2I remember when I first heard the name “Sarah Palin”. I was listening to Glenn Beck on the radio, while he speculated about the possible Vice-Presidential Candidates to run with John McCain on the Republican Ticket in 2008.

I said to myself,

Self, who is that? Sarah Who from where?

Now, almost 6 years later, there is no one in the United States who does not know who she is and what she stands for.

Back in July of 2009, Alaskan Fisherman, Dewey Whetsell, wrote the following list of her accomplishments.

1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor’s office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican’s “Corrupt Bastards Club” (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democratsreacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, “la la la la” (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar.

2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called “ACES.” Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, “don’t let the door hit you in the stern on your way out.” They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor’s office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as “pork.” She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the “when-hell-freezes-over” stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we’ll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor’s jet because it was extravagant.

Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor’s cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning – I imagine – that she’s packing heat herself). I’m still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed “gosh and golly” mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn’t impress you, then you’re trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn’t start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewable by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that’s just a cover-up. I’m still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won’t be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn’t let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

Of course, her influence and status as “kingmaker” is fast becoming the stuff of legend.

Of the 27 candidates Palin endorsed in 2009 and 2010, 22 of them earned victories.  

In 2012, she endorsed the following winners: Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Pat Toomey, Nikki Haley, Deb Fischer, Jeff Flake and Ted Cruz.

Not too shabby, huh?

And, the great news is: Wait a minute, folks! You ain’t seen nothing, yet!

Yesterday, Sarah Palin’s Political Action Committee released a new video, titled, “Loaded For Bear”. The video contains snippets of her Conservative Political Action Conference speech from earlier this month as well as media coverage praising the speech and her string of successful past endorsements.

The Brilliant video use of media actually singing Palin’s praises helps back up her view that she doesn’t need a Fox News contract to get her point of view out there or to have the press talking about her.

Indeed.

Her magnificent speech at this year’s CPAC Conference set the stage and set Conservative hearts on fire, including mine.

Allow me to, once again, describe a seminal moment in her speech, which has become an instant Sarah Palin Classic:

She was bringing up some spot-on political points, when, all of the sudden, she got a mischievous smile on her face and began telling the audience how Todd gave her a wonderful gift the Christmas before last: a gun rack for her ATV. She talked about how cool it was, and then told the crowd that, for this Christmas, she gave Todd a new hunting rifle. She quipped,

Yep, Todd got the rifle and I got the rack.

As the stunned audience quickly broke out in thunderous laughter and applause, Sarah stood there, grinning like the Cheshire Cat, while, at the same time, reaching under the podium to retrieve a 44-ounce Super Big Gulp Diet Coke, which she slowly sipped from, still grinning, then holding it over her head , imitating Lady Liberty holding her torch. The picture of this seminal moment has since gone viral, much to the chagrin of Liberals, on both sides of the political aisle, whose heads have been exploding, like balloons which have blown up beyond their usefulness.

She also got a gig in on professional kingmaker, Karl Rove, he of the whiteboard fame, who was, unfortunately, not a very good prognosticator in the Presidential Election.

Rove made an appearance on yesterday’s Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, where he basically called Governor Palin a quitter, attacking her like a petulant child , who had been criticized by his Mom, or a Liberal Democrat. Take your pick.

Between now and 2014, Liberals, from both sides of the aisle, along with their willing accomplices in the Main Stream Media, will be doing their dead-level best to sabotage her growing influence on the American Political Scene.

But, this is to be expected. Liberals will tell you whom they fear.

The Obama Strategy: Little White Lies, Bald-Faced Lies, and Statistics

ObamalyingIf you are like me, you grew up hearing that there are 3 types of lies in this world. Hence the title of today’s blog.

Little White Lies: I have always believed that these are “plain, old” lies, like those told in the heat of the moment to protect yourself when you are caught red-handed or, you can’t think of anything else to buttress your argument.  I have been trying to think of some examples of just a plain, old lie.

I suppose that a good example of a lie would be : “Sarah Palin said ‘I can see Russia from my house.”

That was, unfortunately, a pretty effective lie. It was actually, now irrelevant, comedienne Tina Fey, of  Saturday Night Live and 30 rock mediocre fame, who uttered those words, during a SNL Skit. I say former, because her attempts at being a movie star have both bombed bigger than Hiroshima. Payback’s a …well…you know.

Ms. Fey’s impersonation was grabbed by the Democratic Party, and all of its minions, and used to further their meme that Gov. Palin was nothing by a stupid Alaskan Snowbilly.

Of course, informed Americans know that the Left’s stereotype of the Arctic Fox is about as far from the truth as Michael Moore is from the Jenny Craig Diet Plan. Unfortunately though,  low information voters (You know…pookie and ‘dem) lapped the false meme up like a kitten laps up a bowl of milk, thanks to the 24/7 barrage of propaganda supplied by the Main Stream Media, and Vichy Republicans, who did not like her because she was an outsider from Flyover Country. It never mattered that she ran the largest state in the nation, and actually ran it in the black. Oh, no. That information was never emphasized by Obama’s Propaganda Platoon: the Main Stream Media, Organizing for Obama,and Hollyweird.

This little lie, as they always do, led to bigger lies, once Obama ascended to the Throne of the Regime.

Bald-faced lies: These are lies, which a professional prevaricator, like Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) can speak without blinking an eye, while smiling at the camera with all the warmth and sincerity of Robert Young in Father Knows Best. (Look it up, kids)

Here are some of the lies which The Lightbringer and his Administrative Angels have laid on us:

If the Supreme Court throws out the federal health care law, it “would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”

“For the first time since 1990, American manufacturers are creating new jobs.”“Preventive care … saves money, for families, for businesses, for government, for everybody.”

“Thirty million Americans, including a lot of people in Florida, are going to be able to get healthcare next year because of that law.”

Obama- “I made a bunch of these promises during the campaign. … We’ve got about 60 percent done in three years.”

Obama Admin.- Under President Barack Obama, the United States has “doubled our exports.”

The president’s proposed budget “will help reduce the deficit by $400 billion over the next decade to the lowest level since Dwight Eisenhower was president.”

About the Sequester:

“If the sequester hits, federal prosecutors will have to “let criminals go.”

“Federally assisted programs like Meals on Wheels would be able to serve 4 million fewer meals to seniors.”

“There are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips” because of sequestration.

“70,000 young children would be kicked off Head Start” –

“Up to 70,000 children would lose access to Head Start and early Head Start services.”

Statistics: Back during the Clinton Administration, Bubba never made a decision without checking the poll numbers on the subject beforehand. During Obama’s First and now, Second Terms, the Pollsters are blatantly weighting their poll samples, both ideologically and geographically,  to make sure they reflect the results that this Administration, the Democratic Party, and their puppet masters, like Mr. Soros, want to hear.

For example, “gay marriage”. If you looked at all the Polls, and listen to all of the Liberal Talking Heads on the cable news channels discussing them, you would think that America is 99.98% behind LeRoy and Festus gettin’ hitched. However, when you take a look at a map showing the results of state referendums on the subject, you see that while 9 Northern States approved it, 30 other states stood firmly against changing the definition of marriage, refusing to treat a sexual preference as a civil right.

Polls are one of the ways in which Liberals and reality travel on two divergent paths.  Too much weed during their wonder years is another reason, but, that’s a subject for another blog.

Because low information voters tend to believe every poll they see, and they do not take the time to look at the sampling, polls are a very effective tool with which to sway the uninformed masses.

So, there you have it. A political strategy to radically change American values and culture, through a propaganda campaign of lies, one more outrageous than the last, spoken and spread, until citizens believe them to be the truth.

Wow. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? What was that guy’s name? You know…the one with the funny mustache.

KJ’s State of the Union. Easter Week 2013 Edition.

obamamyworkWould somebody tell me “What in the Wide, Wide, World of Sports is a’goin’ on here”?

This is Easter/Passover Week, the most holy week in the Judeo-Christian Calendar.

For Jews, Passover is observed as a remembrance of  when God  delivered them  from Pharoah and spared the captive Jewish people from the Angel of Death, by having them paint Lamb’s Blood on the frame of their doors.

For us Christians,Easter serves as a observance of the Love of our Savior, a special time to remember that the Lamb of God was nailed to a cross on the hill known as Golgotha, where he took our sins upon him and covered us with His Precious Blood.

While my faith in Christ offers me a peace beyond all understanding, my soul is stirred with anger, exasperation, and disgust with the current situation in this sacred land, given to us by God Almighty.

The Leader of our country, Barack Hussein Obama, spent the last week in the Holy Land, where he attempted to convince God’s Chosen People to give away half of their nation, which God has given them, to The Palestinians, a nomadic group of gypsies, who have never had a country of their own, and who, as judged by their leaders in Hamas, would rather kill the Israelis than live beside them.

As I have chronicled, Obama met with Hamas Leaders, even before he left on his trip. He then met with college kids over there, using the same strategy he’s always used, attempting to sway the malleable young minds of Israeli “yutes”, as he swayed ours.

Finally, last Friday, it was announced that Obama has “freed up” $500 million and will be giving it to the Palestinian Authority.

The Muslim Call to Prayer must be “one of the prettiest sounds on the face of the Earth” because it has enthralled Obama into betraying our friends and his own nation by supporting and giving beau coups of money to those who want to kill each and every one of us.

While Obama is aiding and abetting our enemies, back home, our country is still feeling the manufactured pinch of a presidentially-instigated Sequestration. The White House is still closed to the American People, for tours. Our Armed Forces are still suffering from limited benefits, and the fate of the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt has been in question.

But, hey. Don’t worry. Our money is being used for important stuff. As I write this, the Obama Girls, Sasha and Malia, are having a kick-butt vacation in Atlantis, a swanky resort down in the Bahamas.

Lucky girls. Most American kids are having a Spring Break Stay-cation this year, thanks to their Dad’s poor stewardship of America’s Economy.

Meanwhile, back in DC, the Supreme Court is set to hear two cases concerning the oxymoron known as “gay marriage”. According to what I’ve been reading, Chief Justice John Roberts ‘ (You remember him…they guy who betrayed Americans over Obamacare) gay cousin, will be attending the hearings with her whatever.

There is also a bunch of buzz circulating as to whether Justice Elena Kagan should recuse herself, since it is obvious that she bats from the other side of the plate.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen, y’all.

Gay marriage activists and their Liberal friends, on both sides of the aisle, have been telling everyone who will listen, that a ruling in favor of “gay marriage” will have no effect on us heterosexuals, whatsoever.

What they don’t tell you, is that it is just the first step down a slippery slope. Next, Preachers will not be able to preach against homosexuality from the pulpit. It’s already happening in Canada.

Also, adoption agencies will be forced to allow gay couples to adopt.  If you are an adoption agency funded by a church, you will either have to go against your belief system or shut down, just as Obama is attacking Catholic institutions over the government subsidized Birth Control/Abortion clauses in Obamacare.

Finally, as I sit here, I realize how grateful I am that God loved me so much that he gave his only-begotten son, to suffer and die for my sake.

I am also grateful to have been born in the Southern Region of the greatest country on the face of the Earth.

The freedom we enjoy as Americans is a gift from our Creator. However, as I’ve mentioned before, with that freedom comes responsibility.

Senator Rand Paul has made news the last couple of days, with the assertion that we should not be putting in jail, those young Americans who have been arrested on their first Drug Offense. Well, here’s the kicker: That doesn’t usually happen. On the first offense, violators are usually given a fine, community service, probation, or all three. Drug violators are usually sentenced to jail time when they are repeat offenders.

That being said, there are folks in America who want and love our freedom, but, seem to be allergic to the responsibilities that go with it. You know, the whole personal responsibility thingy. You have folks who believe that they are, in fact, an island, in the middle of society. Their actions hurt no one but themselves. And, whatever the situation is, if it’s illicit drugs or promiscuous sex, it harms no one, but themselves. Never mind their family, friends, and neighbors. They just don’t matter. No one is as important as they believe themselves to be.

Now, you could say that I’m a crazy old coot who doesn’t trust anybody under 40, as somebody said about me recently. In fact, I do trust several Americans under 40, including, but not limited to, 3 young men I raised as my own,  my darling daughter, friends at work, folks I attend church with, and my new neighbors, a wonderful young couple with a 9 month old baby (which I hope we’ll get to baby-sit).

It’s just that I have the benefit of those extra years, and the mistakes and life experiences that go with them. No man is an island. No man stands alone. Everything you do, directly or indirectly, eventually has an effect on someone else.

Accept the responsibility that comes with your freedom as an American, to yourself and others within your sphere of influence.

For, as Benjamin Franklin once said, what we have is a Republic. If, we can keep it.
