Denial is Not Just a River

On May 1st, Pakistani Taliban Agent (Yeah, I said it.) Faisal Shahzad attempted to detonate a car bomb in the heart of  one of America’s biggest entertaiment meccas, New York City’s Times Square.  The bomb detonated, but failed to produce an explosion.

America got lucky.

On May 4th, President Barak Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) issued the following proclamation:

This incident is another sobering reminder of the times in which we live. Around the world and here at home, there are those who would attack our citizens and who would slaughter innocent men, women, and children in pursuit of their murderous agenda. They will stop at nothing to kill and disrupt our way of life. But once again, an attempted attack has been—failed.

“has been – failed?”  No, Scooter.  The bomb failed to detonate.  You wanted to take credit for that…but couldn’t.

On Friday, May 7,  the Wall Street Journal reported that General David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command, had described Shahzad as a “lone wolf.” Adminstration sycophants immediately proclaimed  those comments as proof that the initial views of Obama administration officials regarding Shahzad not having terrorist connections were irrefutably correct..

Thursday morning, May 13th – Federal agents conducted raids in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey in connection with the failed Times Square car bomb and arrested two Pakistani men who allegedly provided money to suspect Faisal Shahzad, per law enforcement officials.

The searches resulted from evidence gathered in the investigation into the May 1 Times Square bomb attempt.  However, according to FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz, there was “no known immediate threat to the public or any active plot against the United States,”

A top Massachusetts law enforcement official said two Boston-area men had a “direct connection” to Pakistani-American suspect Faisal Shahzad.  They are believed to have been the money men, but investigators weren’t sure whether they were witting accomplices or simply sending him money, a practice common among people from the Middle East and Central Asia who live in the U.S.

Both men were hauled in on the excused of expired visas (the permit, not the credit card).   Hale said a third person was arrested in Maine, though two other law enforcement officials said that arrest was unrelated to the Times Square probe (Yeah, right).

Gee.  I didn’t know lone wolves traveled in packs.

Also Thursday, the ever-vigilant Obama administration cut $53 million from New York City’s terror-fighting budget , a mere dozen days after the botched plot to bomb Times Square.

At the same time, Northwestern University researchers released a study yesterday suggesting New York should get $15 million to $92 million more security money, not less.

The University’s findings were based on how the government allocated homeland security funds to the 10 biggest cities from 2005 through last year – and factored in the likelihood of a terrorist attack.

Being the petulant President he is, President Obama responded to New Yorker’s cries that he shortchanged the city by making an unscheduled stop at 1 Police Plaza, where he vowed to “make sure that you are getting the support you need to protect this great city.”

Hey, NYC.  If you believe that, I’ve got some beachfront property in Arizona.

Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was appearing before Congress, making a fool of himself.   In front of our elected officials, Holder proudly announced the arrests made earlier in the day.  However, the United States Attorney General would not say “radical Islam” is a reason Faisal Shahzad tried to blow a hole in Times Square.  According to Holder:

From Melting Pot to Boiling Point

My grandmother came from Russia
A satchel on her knee,
My grandfather had his father’s cap
He brought from Italy.
They’d heard about a country
Where life might let them win,
They paid the fare to America
And there they melted in.Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she’s got
Is the great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.

America was founded by the English,
But also by the Germans, Dutch, and French.
The principle still sticks;
Our heritage is mixed.
So any kid could be the president.

You simply melt right in,
It doesn’t matter what your skin.
It doesn’t matter where you’re from,
Or your religion, you jump right in
To the great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.
Ooh, what a stew, red, white, and blue.

America was the New World
And Europe was the Old.
America was the land of hope,
Or so the legend told.
On steamboats by the millions,
In search of honest pay,
Those 19th-century immigrants sailed
To reach the U.S.A.

Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she’s got
Is the great American melting pot
The great American melting pot.
What good ingredients,
Liberty and immigrants.

They brought the country’s customs,
Their language and their ways.
They filled the factories, tilled the soil,
Helped build the U.S.A.
Go on and ask your grandma,
Hear what she has to tell
How great to be an American
And something else as well.

Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she’s got
Is the great American melting pot
The great American melting pot.

The great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.

If you were watching Saturday morning cartoons in 1977 on ABC, you would have seen this Schoolhouse Rock musical cartoon titled The Great American Melting Pot.  It extolled the unique greatness of  our American heritage.

For a while now, that heritage has been under attack.

Los Angeles on Wednesday became the largest city yet to boycott Arizona over its  new law reinforcing Federal Laws aimed at  illegal immigration.  This ill-advised move will affect some $8 million in contracts with the state of Arizona.

In an effort to secure their re-elections, The City Council voted 13-1 to bar Los Angeles from conducting business with Arizona unless the law is repealed. The vote came after a phony angst-ridden council discussion during which many self-righteous council members noted that their ancestors were U.S. immigrants. (We all were, geniuses.  Unless, you’re of pure American Indian ancestry.)

Councilman Ed Reyes (D) said:

Los Angeles is the second-largest city in this country. An immigrant city, an international city needs to have its voice heard .

I didn’t hear the citizens of Arizona ask your opinion, Skippy.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (D) already has said he would approve the boycott.

Even though Arizona’s law has been changed, forbidding police from using race to stop people, Liberals say racial profiling is inevitable.

Councilwoman Janice Hahn opines (D):

We must say stop… this is a law that we think is wrong. It’s going in the wrong direction.

According to a report from the city’s chief legislative analyst, the proposal could affect investments and contracts worth as much as $52 million, including contracts for airport, harbor and trucking services, . This unbelievably biased report recommends the council consider suspending travel, cutting contracts and refraining from making any new ones with Arizona-based companies.

Hahn, who co-authored the resolution (I’m shocked.) said it would be not be practical to cancel most of those deals and only about $7 million to $8 million in city contracts probably would be affected.

In related news, the San Diego City Council has endorsed a resolution by a 7-1 vote asking the governor of Arizona to repeal that state’s controversial anti-illegal immigration law. The resolution does not call for a boycott of Arizona, as the Los Angeles resolution does.

Mayor Jerry Sanders indicated he will sign the resolution, passed Monday.

Where is all this angst and less-than-righteous indignation coming from?

As I mentioned earlier, part of it comes from self-serving Liberal politicians trying desperately to overcome the sweeping sentiment across America to vote incumbents out, by trying to fire up their voting base.  These politicians are also trying to win the support of Hispanic voters, who are normally Conservative by nature.

As always, Liberals can count on their Propaganda arm.  From April 23 to May 3,  ABC, CBS, and NBC offered viewers 50 stories and interview segments on their morning and evening news programs. The viewpoint given was full of animosity toward the law and promoted the “growing storm” of left-wing protesters: 37 stories (or 74 percent) were negative, 10 were neutral, and only three were positive toward the Arizona law’s passage .  In other words, 12 negative stories for every one that leaned positive. Stories were very supportive to illegal aliens and snarkily derisive to police officers. Portraying policemen as potential abusers of power while claiming that entering the country illegally was not an abuse of power. According to these propagandists, coming into our country illegally is an honorable step by the powerless.

The overwhelming majority of Americans and, especially, the family of murdered Arizona rancher Robert Krentz, have a different opinion.

This desperately contrived, coordinated message by the Left is failing miserably.  Every sovereign nation has the right to protect its’ citizens. I love the concept of America as a melting pot. But that only works if you come here legally and assimilate into American culture. Don’t think you can come here illegally and expect to sublimate our national identity to that of the poverty-stricken country you left behind. Americans won’t stand still for it.

Press “1” for English

I’ve written about the Arizona Immigration Law in the blog “For Mr. Krentz”.  I’ve written about the situation at Morgan Hill High School in the blog “OUR Flag is Offensive?”.

My opinions are certainly not the only ones out there.

From the Who Asked You? Department:  Six U.N. human rights experts opined Tuesday that Arizona’s new law on illegal immigration could violate international standards that are binding in the United States .

These professional bureaucrats said the basic human rights regulations, signed by the U.S. and many other nations, relate to issues such as discrimination and the terms under which a person can be detained:

A disturbing pattern of legislative activity hostile to ethnic minorities and immigrants has been established with the adoption of an immigration law that may allow for police action targeting individuals on the basis of their perceived ethnic origin.
Hey geniuses, that means the Federal Law, on which the Arizona Law is based, is flawed, too.  Why don’t you get the log (of corruption) out of your own eye first before you talk about the perceived cinder in America’s?

And, lame duck Governor of California, Ahhhnold Schwarzenegger, tried to make a funny while speaking to graduates at Emory University in Atlanta on Monday:

I was also going to give a graduation speech in Arizona this weekend. But with my accent, I was afraid they would try to deport me.

Very droll, Governor.  It’s a shame your day job is being terminated.  Maybe you could try out a stand-up routine at The Improv.

Meanwhile, Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona is focused on her job.  She has signed a bill aimed at an ethnic studies program in a Tucson school district.

According to State schools chief Tom Horne , the district’s ethnic studies program promotes “ethnic chauvinism” and racial resentment toward whites.

The measure prohibits classes that advocate ethnic solidarity, that are designed primarily for students of a particular race or that promote resentment toward a certain ethnic group. The Tucson Unified School District denies its program promotes resentment. (Of couse.)

Out in Morgan hill, California, The School Board held a late night meeting to allow citizens to speak their minds about the incident at Live Oaks High School.  In the interest of fairness, they cut the citizens’ speaking times down from 3 minutes each to 2 minutes per speaker.

About 200 people packed the auditorium since it was their first chance to voice their opinions to district leaders.

It’s always been Hispanics versus Caucasians. It’s been like that in our history, we cannot sugarcoat this, said student Teresa Rita Corona.

You guys made this segregated by stupidity and ignorance, said parent Teresa Casillas.

I want to see the principal and vice principal fired or you will face legal action, said Gilroy resident Mark Zappa.

I personally am getting very, very tired of disrespect to that flag and what this nation actually stands for, said Morgan Hill resident Lavonne Atnit.

We want an apology for our boys, disciplinary action to be taken to a certain extent, and we want to prevent the same thing from happening all over again, said one of the mothers of a student wearing an American flag t-shirt, Julie Fagerstrom.

These situations have brought a simmering issue to a roiling boil.  These two stories  have galvanized the feelings Americans have about people who are in our country illegally.

Here are some American opinions per RasmussenReports.com:

70% of Arizona Voters Favor New State Measure Cracking Down On Illegal Immigration

67% Say Illegal Immigrants Are Major Strain on U.S. Budget

68% Oppose Cities That Give ‘Sanctuary’ To Illegal Immigrants

68% Say Those Who Employ Illegal Immigrants Should Be Punished

A while back, the following allegorical story went viral.  You may have seen this already, but it explains illegal immigration as succinctly as anything I’ve come across:

Let’s pretend I broke into your house.  When you discover me there, you insist I leave.  But I say, “I’ve made all the beds, washed the dishes, did the laundry, and cleaned the floors; I’ve done all the work you don’t like to do. I’m hardworking and honest (except for breaking into your house). Not only must you let me stay, you must also add me to your insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide these benefits to my husband, too (he will do your yardwork, he’s honest and hardworking too–except for that breaking in part). If you try to force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house and proclaim my right to be there! It’s only fair, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I’m trying to better myself. I’m hardworking and honest…except for, well, you know. I will live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness and prejudice.

Oh yeah, I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Good plan..don’t you think?

Speaking of language, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey released yesterday finds that 87% of Adults favor making English the nation’s official language. This is the highest level of support yet but in line with what voters have been saying for several years. Just nine percent (9%) disagree.
So, please tell me why I have to press “1” for English?

Kagan: Deja Vu…All Over Again

This is Smart Power?

OUR Country’s Flag is Offensive?

It is the night of September 13, 1814.  The British fleet are bombarding Fort McHenry in the harbor at Baltimore, Maryland. Francis Scott Key, a 34-year old lawyer-poet, is watching the attack from the deck of a British prisoner-exchange ship. Key had gone seeking the release of a friend. They were told that they had to remain aboard the vessel until the end of the attack. When the battle was over, the following morning, Key had his telescope on the fort and saw the American flag was still waving. The sight of the tattered Stars and Stripes was so moving that he pulled a letter from his pocket and began to write the poem. This poem eventually became the national anthem of the United States – “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight’
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 – On a day celebrating a manufactured Mexican Holiday, designed to increase revenue for beer distilleries and Mexican Restaurants, administrators at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California send five students home after they refuse to remove their American flag T-shirts and bandannas — garments the school officials deemed “incendiary” on the artificial observance called Cinco de Mayo.

The Assistant Principal, Miguel Rodriguez, asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas.  The boys did as they were told and were then asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal’s office.

The five students:  Daniel Galli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel and Clayton Howard, were then told to turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, but, it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told them he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags.

Dariano’s mother, Diana, told FoxNews.com she and parents of the other four students want an apology from officials and are thinking about filing a lawsuit.

We want an apology, Diana Dariano said Thursday. Who in the United States of America would have an issue with that? It’s a sad, sad day.

Who, indeed.

More than 200 Hispanic students reportedly skipped class on Thursday and marched to school district headquarters while chanting “we want respect” and “si se puede” — “yes we can,” the Morgan Hill Times reported.  You may have seen the video of these brave young people berating and antagonizing a man in a motorized wheelchair.

The noble nature of their protest is underwhelming.

Morgan Hill Police Department Commander Joe Sampson said two officers were stationed at Live Oak High School school midday Friday to give a “visual presence” in order to thwart any potential acts of violence.

Assistant Principal Rodriguez has apologized for telling the young Americans that they couldn’t wear U.S. flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo, the local superintendent said Friday.

Superintendent Wesley Smith described freedom of expression as “a sacred American value” and said the lesson learned is that it should be celebrated “thoughtfully and fairly.”

I repeat:  OUR country’s flag is offensive?

Smith said, noting the national media attention on the school:

It is unfortunate that some people want to leverage their personal agendas off of this incident.

Translation:  We got caught being stupid Liberals who care more about another country than we do our own.

Most of the kids on our campus have said, ‘Enough is enough.’ they want to get back to normal.

Translation:   Move along, nothing to see here.  Please, move along.

Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Yes, it  does, Mr. Key, sir.  But, just like that fateful night so long ago, it is under attack.  Only this time, it is under attack from enemies foreign and domestic.

Black Thursday…Almost

About 2.40pm on Thursday, the S&P 500 index, the US equity market’s benchmark, fell from 1,120. Within six minutes, it bottomed out at 1,065.79, a Kamikaze-like dive of nearly 5 per cent. By 3.00pm, the index was moving above 1,120, although still down 4 per cent on the day before, settling 3.2 per cent lower by the close.

The immediate explanation circulating through the Main Street Media was that an incorrectly typed sell order – one that confused “billions” for “millions”, for example – was the likely culprit.

However, despite the tedious pushing by the Main Stream Media of this story, officials still could not identify a specific cause.

We still don’t know what was the initiating signal for the trading activity we saw on Thursday, said Jeff Wecker, chief executive officer at Lime Brokerage. The verdict is still out.

Since other people are volunteering theories about this almost-disastrous stock market dive, I would like to throw one out there, too.  At the risk of being accused of wearing a tin foil hat, here it is.  It involves a close friend and benefactor of the President of the United States of America:

George Soros set up the now famous Quantum Fund as one of the world’s first Hedge Funds. It took money from the wealthy and invested in risky but potentially highly profitable international deals.

It did very well out of the collapse of fixed exchange rates in the 1970s and the deregulation of global capital markets. By 1980, George Soros was worth more than £16.5 million and his fund £67 million. The stage was set for his intervention in the Exchange Rate Mechanism, a system established in 1979 for controlling exchange rates within the European Monetary System of the European Union (EU) that was intended to prepare the way for a single currency.

Around spring 1992, Soros had decided that the pound would have to be devalued because it had been pushed into the Exchange Rate Mechanism at too high a rate.

He knew that the Bundesbank was in favor of a devaluation of both sterling and the Italian lira and believed it would have to happen because of the disastrous impact that high British interest rates were having on asset prices.

Soros spent the next few months in preparation to profit from that devaluation. He borrowed sterling heavily, reportedly to the tune of £6.5 billion, and converted that into a mixture of Deutschmarks and French francs.

On Black Wednesday, September 16, 1992, Soros won his bet.  The UK Conservative government was forced to withdraw the Pound from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) due to pressure by currency speculators, most notably Soros himself.

In the following days, he took care of business, paying back what he borrowed and ending with a profit of around £1 billion.  At the same time, Soros bought as much as £350 million of British shares, gambling that equities often rise after a currency devalues.

He later admitted that his actions had benefited no one but himself.

There are several culprits in the American Stock Market Crash of 2008 that helped cost John McCain the Presidency, but one key source of the problem escaped almost everyone’s attention:  an economic index that can be easily manipulated by Hedge Funds and whose erratic movements have shaken the foundation of Wall Street: the ABX index, launched in 2007 by the Markit Group, a London-based company that specializes in credit derivative pricing and that administers the index.

The heart of the mortgage mess we are still recovering from was uncertainty regarding the value of subprime securities. The ABX Index is used to determine the value of these securities: it is a benchmark of the market for all the home loans issued to borrowers with weak credit . A collapse of this index led to home loans being marked down in value.

Looking back, it’s pretty clear that the ABX was manipulated by Hedge Funds. As the ABX subprime mortgage index crashed, so did much of our economy.

Some investors made out like bandits. George Soros for one. Soros had become a political powerbroker of unrivaled influence within the Democratic Party (see The Shadow Party: How George Soros, Hillary Clinton and Sixties Radicals Seized Control of the Democratic Party) and, even now, has an empire of politically active 527 groups, of which he is the number one donor, by far, in America.

There is a now infamous lunch whispered about between Soros and John Paulson, a Hedge Fund Manager who made millions during the collapse.  Soros invited Paulson for lunch, “asking for details of how he laid his bets, with instruments that didn’t exist a few years ago”.

Soros’s Hedge Fund, like most Hedge Funds, is based overseas and escapes much scrutiny and regulation.

George Soros was a very early and influential backer of Barack Obama and remains so to this day.

Speaking of the present…

White House press secretary Robert (Baghdad Bob) Gibbs yesterday said Obama’s economic team was jolted by Thursday’s near disaster and met with Obama shortly after the market plunged.

Gibbs said Obama thinks:

the circumstances around this is something that should be watched or should be reviewed and looked at.

No kiddin’, Scooter.  May I suggest someone you should talk to first?

Why Haven’t I Heard of Khalid al-Monsour?

Did you ever wonder how Barak Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) got the money to get into Harvard law School?   Well, according to the late,  long-time Manhattan Borough Chairman Percy Sutton, Scooter got the money from Khalid al-Monsour.

Who’s that guy?  Glad you asked.  According to Newsmax:

Although many Americans have never heard of Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour (his full name), he is well known within the black community as a lawyer, an orthodox Muslim, a black nationalist, an author, an international deal-maker, an educator, and an outspoken enemy of Israel. A graduate of Howard University with a law degree from the University of California, al-Mansour sits on numerous corporate boards, including the Saudi African Bank and Chicago-based LaGray Chemical Co. LaGray, which was formed to do business in Africa, counts former Nigerian President General Abdusalam Abubakar on its advisory board.

Mansour’s journey to notoriety and lots of Benjamins began with an introduction to the Saudi king in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1977.   He was asked by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal,  a student down in Newport (Calif.) to go home with him to Riyadh.  His buddy planned to ask the king for money to help with his studies in the United States. But the king refused.  Per al-Monsour:

He was mad. And then my friend told me that the basis of his anger was that OPEC was being sued, al-Mansour said. This was a very nasty conspiracy that involved some of the biggest respected political names in America. The king didn’t know all of that, but he knew he wasn’t happy.

Al-Mansour’s buddy told the Saudi king that he was an attorney.

The King didn’t know if I was a good lawyer or bad lawyer, but said,  Will you do it?  I said, I’d have to study it.   He said, Just take it, and get out!

The king wanted only one lawyer to represent the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.  Al-Monsour explained:

So you win or you lose, based on the outcome because no one’s going to listen to any excuses. You’re either a loser for life, or a winner for life.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Regarding his relationship with Obama and the Percy Sutton revelations, al-Monsour dodged every question he was  asked:

In respect to Mr. Obama, I have told him, because so many people are running after him, and when stories get printed they usually get distorted and then he has to spend a lot of time trying to unravel them – and then after the experience of Rev. (Jeremiah) Wright whom I’ve never met, but I’ve followed the media coverage – I was determined that I was never going to be in that situation. I never discuss Barack Obama.

Al-Mansour had heard of Percy Sutton’s revelations that identified him as raising money for Obama’s law school education when the presidential candidate was 25.

But I’ve never confirmed it.  What you have since I’ve been out of the country is bloggers saying this is the new Rev. Wright — in drag! and he is a nationalist, racist, and worse than Rev. Wright. I’m not getting into that. Any statement that I make would only further the activity which is not in the interest of Barack, not in the interest of Percy, not in the interest of anyone. For the bloggers to not even have the courtesy to call me to ask what’s happening is a clear sign to me. There’s no need. There’s no benefit. So why do it?

When asked whether he had identified Barack Obama while he was an undergraduate at Columbia as a promising student he wanted to help get into Harvard Law School, al-Mansour developed a sudden case of partial amnesia.

I give a lot of speeches on college campuses, in the US and abroad. So I meet people all the time…. But I can’t say that I remember that.

Nor would he confirm or deny that he had called Sutton to ask him to help Obama get into Harvard.

I’m not going to say that. That lends itself regardless of the answer and regardless of the truth to the type of sensationalism that I don’t consider productive to the goals that I have. I don’t see how this will promote education. I don’t see how this will promote a global respect. I don’t see how it deals with the basic issues we’re faced with in the country. I try to limit my comments to those kinds of issues, to avoid the tendency of the press to sensationalize both positive and negative.

By now, I’m sure most of you are asking yourselves the same thing I did:

Why haven’t I heard of Khalid al-Monsour?

Pundits like Ben Smith of politico.com reported that Mr. Sutton was old and clearly off his rocker.  Others, like Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times reported during the late  part of Obama’s Presidential Campaign that:

The Obama’s were complaining about college debt.  Obama took out $42,753 in loans to pay for Harvard tuition.

President Obama attend Harvard Law School from 1988 – 1991.  The average tuition during that time was $25,000 per year.  It would have cost $75,000 to attend there for 3 years.  As president of the Harvard Law Review, he received no stipend from the school, according to Harvard spokesman Mike Armini in a interview with Newsmax.

If numbers cited by the Obama Presidential Campaign for Scooter”s student loans are accurate, that means that Obama came up with more than $32,000 over three years from sources other than loans to pay for tuition, room and board.  Hmmmmm.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  There is a bunch of shady stuff floating around out there regarding the President of the United State’s past that has rarely seen the light of day.  It is being zealously guarded by The Magnificent One’s acolytes, like a mouse would guard a piece of cheese.  How did Obama become President?   Ask the Main Stream Media.  All the information in this blog from Newsmax, including Al-Monsour’s interview, was published in early September of 2008.

A Nation Standing in the Need of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

On Thursday April 15, 2010 U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb (a Clinton appointee), ruled that the National Day of Prayer, scheduled for today, was unconstitutional.    Crabb wrote in her ruling (excerpt):

It goes beyond mere “acknowledgment” of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context. In this instance, the government has taken sides on a matter that must be left to individual conscience

One might argue that the National Day of Prayer does not violate the establishment clause because it does not endorse any one religion. Unfortunately, that does not cure the problem. Although adherents of many religions “turn to God in prayer,” not all of them do.

Further, the statute seems to contemplate a specifically Christian form of prayer with its reference to “churches” but no other places of worship and the limitation in the 1952 version of the statute that the National Day of Prayer may not be on a Sunday.

Judge Crabb apparently does not understand the meaning of the word voluntary.

Exactly one week after the ruling, our fearless Commander-in-Chief came courageously to the defense of this national voluntary observance.  Per CNN.com:

The Obama administration will fight to preserve the law establishing an annual National Day of Prayer, the Justice Department confirmed Thursday (April 22nd).

The Justice Department’s official filing of a “notice to appeal” Thursday came as no surprise, after White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said following the ruling that President Obama intends to recognize this year’s National Day of Prayer, which is May 6.

The injunction against the National Day of Prayer would not take effect until the appeals have been exhausted.

This was remarkable, considering that the President refuses to allow the Federal Government to participate in this observance.   However, realizing that 75 % of Americans identify themselves as Christian and, as Fox and Friends informed us yesterday morning, 83 % of Americans believe that God answers prayer, what choice did President Obama have?  Maybe he actually learned something in those 20 years under the most honorable Reverend Wright, besides how to spell America with three K’s in front of it.

Our Founding Fathers recognized the need of prayer:

Benjamin Franklin at the Congressional Congress, 1787

I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth–that God Governs the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move–that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.

Presidents have always realized the power of praying to their Creator.   As Michael Barone wrote on January 19th, 2005 for wsj.com about George W. Bush’s Second Inauguration:

George W. Bush has been criticized for his religious references. But he has only been following tradition. Every Second Inaugural since Washington’s brief statement has included some reference to God, from Jefferson’s “that Being,” Madison’s “Heaven” and Monroe’s “Supreme Author of All Good” to Reagan’s “God bless you” and Clinton’s “May God strengthen our hands for the good work ahead–and always, always bless our America.” Four years ago Mr. Bush referred, in Founder’s language, to the “author” of “our nation’s grand story.” Expect something similar from him tomorrow.

Today, our nation stands at the precipice, looking over into future’s abyss of  unknown possibilities.  Will we remain true to our founders, who began a new nation based on Judeo-Christian values and beliefs?  Or will we be destroyed at the hands of our enemies, foreign and domestic?  Please join millions in observing the purpose of this day.  We are a nation standing in the need of prayer.

I’m an Extremist?

In the 24 hour news cycle yesterday, the majority of time  (and rightfully so)  was taken up by the capture of and subsequent revelations about the Times Square Bomber, Faisal Shahzad.  It was revealed that he was a naturalized citizen who left to return to Pakistan for additional (ahem)technical training 3 months before going through his citizenship ceremony.   He returned here without his American wife and two children to complete his mission.

There was all sorts of speculation among the Main Stream Media and Liberal Politicians as to his motivation for trying to blow up a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder Saturday night in the heart of one of the busiest entertainment meccas in America.  Some speculated that he was angry over the foreclosure of his house.    Some claimed it was Boooosh’s fault.  New York City Mayor Bloomberg  told perky Katie Couric that he thought the Bomber was:

Homegrown maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.

And some in the Main Stream Media were just downright disappointed:

Amongst all the angst by our self-appointed arbitrators of appropriateness, there was one term that I never heard yesterday until I was watching Monica Crowley (God bless her) sitting there with Alan (Skelator) Colmes last night on the O’Reilly Factor.  That term was (shoo away the small children) Muslim Extremist. (gasp!).

Along with Barak Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) and his Administration, the sycophantic MSM has determined that calling a Muslim Terrorist a Muslim Extremist  is so offensive, that just speaking those dreaded words might do irreparable harm to the wonderful relationship that the Greatest President of  All Time has forged with the Middle East.  (Just ask Bibi Netanyahu about our POTUS.)

Hey, it’s worked great so far, hasn’t it?  While Iranian President Ahmedinejad is fervently rushing to build a nuclear arsenal in order to blow the U.S. off the face of the Earth, Scooter breached Protocol and torqued off one of our staunchest allies, Israel, at a White House Conference, and then he held a Summit Conference for Muslim Entrepreneurs.

So, while President Pantywaist’s Administration and the MSM are pussy-footin’ around, the Muslim Extremists (Yeah, I said it.) have become emboldened to the point that they are now embedding themselves in our culture, like the old Russian Sleeper Cells during the Cold War, just waiting to kill as many Americans as they can and claim their 72 virgins.  Thanks to the naive at best, treasonous at worst, policies of this President and his Administration, America is having to fight the War on Terror on the streets of our own cities.

But, Scooter is waaaay smarter than we are.  He speaks about Islam from personal experience, as in his Cairo Speech on June 4, 2009:

Now part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I’m a Christian (Is that why you said that we were no longer a Christian nation?), but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims.  As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia (in a Madrassa) and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and at the fall of dusk.  As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith (like Calypso Louie Farrakhan?).  As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.  It was Islam — at places like Al-Azhar — that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe’s Renaissance and Enlightenment (nothing like Revisionist History).  It was innovation in Muslim communities — (applause) — it was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed.  Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation (and beheadings).  And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds (like jihad) the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.  (Applause.)

Y’know, I was called an Extremist yesterday.  It happened on a very popular Conservative Website by a Liberal poster, after I dared asked why the MSM was not referring to Faisal Shahzad as a Muslim Extremist.  I replied:

Yep.  I’m an Extremist.  I’m extreme in my love for God, my family, and my country and the freedom it affords which gives you the right to be a total jerk on the Internet.

He did not have a snappy comeback for that.

By the way, on Fox and Friends this morning, it was announced that 83 % of Americans believe that God answers prayers.  That means that, according to the Administration and the Main Street Media, 83 % of you are Extremists, too.
