Here’s my quick thought for this Sunday morning: It’s a little after 7:00 this morning and supposedly, Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin is going to talk to his players at 9:00. Understandably, the Ole Miss fans are upset about all the rumors and theatrics that have been going on this season as they started winning and the rumors start spreading about Kiffin going to where the grass was greener. As a University of Memphis graduate, all I can say is, “Welcome to the party pal.” Remember John Calipari? Just like Calipari did to us and Kiffin did to the University of Tennessee, he’s going to take your whole recruiting class if he goes. Which brings me to my point. Today’s College Athletics is no longer existing for the purpose of sportsmanship and building young men and women into teams. Thanks to the NIL and Transfer Portal, it’s every man and woman for himself and the university with the most money pays out the wazoo to get the best players. Unfortunately for them, just because their bought and paid for recruit has a lot of talent, does not mean tbey have the work ethics, morality, or common sense to become an asset to the university or a team player and winner. Those who pushed for this mess, gamblers, agents, and professional sports teams executives, did not count the important things which made college games so fun to watch. By making college sports a minor league for professional teams, they destroyed the camaraderie, the loyalty, and the training which led to growth of the athlete himself or herself. It takes more than one and done with a college coach or team to hone a raw college recruit into a collegiate team player or a professional prospect. And, usually, it takes more than one season to create a championship team. But, hey what do I know? I’m just a fan …an extremely frustrated one. Have a blessed, restful Sunday. God bless.
God Bless,
KJ
