The Illegal Alien Invasion and The Consequences of Voting “Present”

Obama-Shrinks-2

Indecision and delays are the parents of failure. – George Canning

The President of these United States, Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm), was recently voted in a poll participated in by the American people,  “The Worst President since World War II”.

Matt Lewis, writing for The Daily Telegraph, in an article posted on Saturday, made the following observations about Obama’s failed presidency,

The trailers were great, but the movie was horrible.

Six years in, that’s the general consensus on the Obama presidency. Having ridden a wave of “hope and change” to the White House, President Barack Obama has failed to deliver on his huge box office, err, ballot box expectations.

Just how bad is it? Since it is summer “blockbuster” season, I’ll explain thusly: There’s a difference between being bad and being most awesomely bad. You and I probably never even hear of the worst movies made. They are forgotten, not mocked. But the truly disastrous flops – the Water Worlds and Ishtars of the world – are the movies that come with huge budgets and huge expectations.

Obama fits the latter category – extremely talented and hyped, but ultimately, unsatisfying. True, I’ve been making this case for a long time – but now, there’s evidence.

A Quinnipiac poll released in America this week has Obama ranked as the “worst president” since World War II. For various reasons, this may or may not be entirely fair, but considering his competition included Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush, this is problematic. And, what is more, a majority surveyed also said “the nation would be better off” had Mitt Romney won presidency.

Whereas Jaws was a summer hit in the summer of 1975, Obama has now “jumped the shark” in the sweltering summer of 2014.

So what’s to blame? For one thing, all the talk of “hope and change” turned out to be a stark contrast to his practice of stoking bitterness and division in order to win re-election. Call it false advertising or buyer’s remorse, but just because someone buys a ticket to a show doesn’t mean they’re going to applaud. Somewhere along the way, this feel-good romcom turned into a horror show.

Obama’s biggest fan club, the Main Stream Media itself, even before Obama’s 2009 Ascension to the Throne, ignored all the warning signs, which we Conservatives were screaming about at the top of our lungs. Warning signs which they themselves were aware of, but chose to ignore.

In an article posted in 2007, The New York Times reported that

In 1999, Barack Obama was faced with a difficult vote in the Illinois legislature — to support a bill that would let some juveniles be tried as adults, a position that risked drawing fire from African-Americans, or to oppose it, possibly undermining his image as a tough-on-crime moderate.

Barack Obama being sworn in as a Democratic state senator in Illinois in 1997. He was first elected in 1996 and left in 2004.
In the end, Mr. Obama chose neither to vote for nor against the bill. He voted “present,” effectively sidestepping the issue, an option he invoked nearly 130 times as a state senator.

Sometimes the “present’ votes were in line with instructions from Democratic leaders or because he objected to provisions in bills that he might otherwise support. At other times, Mr. Obama voted present on questions that had overwhelming bipartisan support. In at least a few cases, the issue was politically sensitive.

And now, with Illegal Aliens crossing our Southern Border by the hundreds of thousands, ol’ Scooter still can not make a decision to save his life…and, ours.

According to Fox News,

President Obama is backing down for now on seeking new legal authority to expedite sending illegal immigrant kids back across the border, following criticism of the proposed changes from advocacy groups, the Associated Press reported Monday.

However, an administration official immediately pushed back on the report, insisting to Fox News the expanded authorities to return the minors are still on the table.

“We already sent a letter to the congressional leaders last week on our desire for expanded authorities and we are still seeking those authorities and have made clear we will work with Congress to get those authorities,” the official said.

AP reported that two congressional aides said Obama would not seek policy changes to speed up deportations when Obama formally asks Congress for more than $2 billion in emergency spending Tuesday to deal with the border crisis. The White House told Congress last week that it would seek “additional authority” for the Homeland Security secretary to quickly return the minors back home, and the pledge has been repeated by administration officials since.

According to AP, White House officials said they still intend to eventually pursue additional authorities to speed the return of the children who’ve been arriving by the thousands, mostly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. However, for now the White House request will focus on additional money for immigration judges, detention facilities, legal aid and other items that could address the situation on the border.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest also said in a briefing Monday that the administration is seeking the changes.

“What we’re seeking is additional authority that can be used by the secretary of Homeland Security to deal with the situation in a humanitarian way, in a way that’s in line with our laws,” he said.

Immigration advocates have responded angrily to the proposed changes, with more than 200 groups signing onto a letter last week calling on Obama to reconsider. Some congressional Democrats also voiced concerns.

The advocates have understood the changes to mean that the children, who currently have the right to a hearing before an immigration judge, would lose that right and instead would have to make it through an initial screening with a Border Patrol agent.

According to curiosity.discovery.com, the duties of the President of the United States are as follows…

When a president takes office, he or she swears to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The Constitution gives the president the following foreign policy responsibilities:

Making treaties with other countries, with Senate approval
Receiving foreign heads of state
Commanding the U.S. armed forces, as well as any state militias under federal control
Domestically, the president is responsible for:

Making sure that the U.S. laws are enforced

Appointing public officers, such as Supreme Court judges
Issuing criminal pardons
Proposing bills to Congress
Presenting a State of the Union

In addition, the president can convene or adjourn Congress as necessary. He or she also has the power of veto over Congress’ decisions. Presidential terms run for four years, and the 22nd Amendment limits a president to two terms. The president is paid for his or her efforts and can be impeached for serious crimes.

However, in order to fulfill those duties, a United States President actually has to be able to make a decision.
