Amnesty and the 2014 Mid-terms: Republicans Ready to Snatch Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Republican AmnestyYesterday morning, after witnessing, along with the rest of the nation, the worst and least-watched State of the Union Address in Presidential History, I had a smile on my face, believing that the Republicans were going to win back the Senate in a Political Tsunami of a Mid-term Election later this year.

And then, Former Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan had to open his big, naive, Crony Capitalist mouth, and remind me why I came up with the term “Vichy Republicans”.

He told Chuck Todd on MSNBC that the outline would include border security, work authorization, and legal status by way of a “probationary status,” but that it would not have a “special pathway” to citizenship, as in the Senate immigration bill. In 2013, Ryan was a supporter of a bill that includes strong border security and citizenship provisions. But as House Republicans prepare to release a new, narrower proposal that they hope has a better chance of passage, Ryan seemed to step back from his previous support for reform, suggesting that something like the Senate bill would be “amnesty.”

During his interview, Ryan said that undocumented immigrants would be given a “probationary” status that would allow them to work at the same time that the border is being secured. After they satisfy rigorous pre-conditions of a probationary period including paying fines and learning English, they can then apply for “regular work permits.” Eventually some immigrants can apply for lawful permanent residence after getting into the back of the line behind legal immigrants “who did things right in the first place.”

The Vichy Republicans are not pushing Amnesty to gain new voters (As we say in Dixie, “They’re stupid, but they ain’t ig’nant”.); they’re pushing Amnesty to make their Big Money Donors in the US Chamber of Commerce happy, by supplying them with cheap labor.

Yes, boys and girls, both the Republicans and the US Chamber of Commerce have sold us hard-working Americans out…to make an extra buck or two.

And now, the Chamber wants to try to convince Evangelicals that rewarding those who have broken our laws is the “Christian thing to do.”

Last Friday, Bloomberg.com reported that

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is wooing religious groups to overcome opposition of conservative lawmakers to immigration-law revisions as Congress is poised to consider the issue.

“The left has never been the problem on this,” Randel Johnson, the chamber’s senior vice president for labor and immigration issues, said today at an event in Washington. “The right is the problem.”

The chamber, the largest U.S. business-lobbying group, and President Barack Obama’s administration are seeking to rewrite immigration laws, which they say limits access to workers. House Republicans say they will take up the issue this year after declining to consider a Senate-passed bill last year.

Johnson said Tea Party-backed candidates and Republicans aren’t the chief obstacles to change.

“This issue doesn’t divide by the so-called Tea Party or non-Tea Party members,” he said, adding that the chamber has had more than 150 meetings with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill to discuss the issue.

Evangelical groups’ support can help win over conservatives, Johnson said. In November, the Southern Baptist Convention and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops joined the chamber in urging Congress to act on the issue.

The event co-sponsored by the chamber featured former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder — both Republicans — and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, founder and majority owner of Bloomberg News parent Bloomberg LP.

“The reality is without immigration our workforce down the road doesn’t grow,” Gutierrez said. “And if our workforce doesn’t grow, our economy doesn’t grow.”

Here’s an idea, Former Secretary Guiterrez: How about employing those Americans who do not have a job, including our Veterans?

The great Michelle Malkin once wrote about the days of the Great Melting Pot, where hard-working people from other countries, came to our shores seeking a better life. However, they decided to enter through Ellis Island and other checkpoints…legally. Once they gained their citizenship, they assimilated in American Culture, becoming loyal American Citizens.

Those principles have been abandoned, scorned, and sabotaged. You have not heard an iota about them from Washington. It is the erosion of Americanization and the ascendancy of the collectivists that helped create the conditions for Election Day.

Amnesty instead of assimilation is a recipe for even greater GOP losses at at the ballot box.

Amnesty instead of assimilation is a recipe for the furtherance of American decline.

I’m all for assisting anyone in becoming a legal citizen of the United States, if that is their wish.  But, it must be done the right way, and they must accept responsibility for their illegal entry, show a willingness to learn our language, and embrace our American way of life, including respecting the American Flag.

A wide-open Southern Border is as big a threat to the sovereignty of the United States as anything that our enemies can throw at us right now.  Republicans in the House and Senate, and in the Halls of Power in Washington, need to quit playing political games.  The safety of America is at stake .

The Democrats promised that the border would be secured, if Reagan signed off on Amnesty in 1986, and did not keep their end of the bargain.  GOP, what makes you believe that you can trust them in 2012?

And, US Chamber of Commerce Leadership…you should be ashamed of yourselves.  Capitalism is one thing. Putting our nation at risk for the promise of cheap labor is another.

SECURE THE BORDER NOW.

P.S. I’m will not “evolve” on this subject. While I am striving to be a better Christian man every day, God loves me just the way I am.

Until He comes,

KJ

Vichy Republicans. I like that. My usual expression is those (many expletives, pejoratives, and curses deleted) Republicans. The Democrats are at least honest about their treason, hatred of country, and lust for money and power.

Let me also add that it would serve the Republicans and the nation much better to axe taxes and regulations and ditch the free trade nonsense and put up barriers to compensate for the cheating some nations (China) are doing. If they do this, jobs will begin to be created and manufacturing should return. Above all, if they actually took on big government and cut it back down to size, they would win in landslides. But I guess the siren song of campaign cash now is just too enticing. One has to wonder how much is being squirreled away by the poobahs at the top to make such political suicide attractive.
