By now, you have probably heard about the “movement” to raise the wages of Fast Food Workers to $15 an hour. Well, after a less-than-spectacular summer push, the organizers of this manufactured movement are calling for a “massive protest” this Thursday.

The New York Times reports that

Seeking to increase pressure on McDonald’s, Wendy’s and other fast-food restaurants, organizers of a movement demanding a $15-an-hour wage for fast-food workers say they will sponsor one-day strikes in 100 cities on Thursday and protest activities in 100 additional cities.

Life on $7.25 an Hour (December 1, 2013)

As the movement struggles to find pressure points in its quest for substantially higher wages for workers, organizers said strikes were planned for the first time in cities like Charleston, S.C.; Providence, R.I.; and Pittsburgh.

The protests have expanded greatly since November 2012, when 200 fast-food workers engaged in a one-day strike at more than 20 restaurants in New York City, the first such walkout in the history of the nation’s fast-food industry.

“There’s been pretty huge growth in one year,” said Kendall Fells, one of the movement’s main organizers. “People understand that a one-day strike is not going to get them there. They understand that this needs to continue to grow.”

The movement, which includes the groups Fast Food Forward and Fight for 15, is part of a growing union-backed effort by low-paid workers — including many Walmart workers and workers for federal contractors — that seeks to focus attention on what the groups say are inadequate wages.

The fast-food effort is backed by the Service Employees International Union and is also demanding that restaurants allow workers to unionize without the threat of retaliation.

Officials with the National Restaurant Association have said the one-day strikes are publicity stunts. They warn that increasing pay to $15 an hour when the federal minimum wage is $7.25 would cause restaurants to rely more on automation and hire fewer workers.

The Service Employees Union International, or SEIU, should be a familiar name to all Americans.

• In 2008, SEIU spent approximately $60.7 million to help elect Barack Obama to the White House, deploying some 100,000 pro-Obama campaign volunteers who “knocked on 1.87 million doors, made 4.4 million phone calls … and sent more than 2.5 million pieces of mail in support of Obama.” During his campaign, Obama told an SEIU audience: “Your agenda has been my agenda in the United States Senate…. Just imagine what we could do together…Imagine having a president whose life’s work was your work…” After Obama’s election, the SEIU became an enormously influential force in his administration: and to SEIU.
• Former SEIU lobbyist Patrick Gaspard served as the Obama campaign’s national political director and as transition deputy director of personnel.
• SEIU played a key role in promoting the appointment of two Obama cabinet appointees: Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Labor Department secretary Hilda Solis, the latter of whom had previously received both money and ground support from SEIU during her first congressional campaign in 2000.
• SEIU secretary-treasurer Anna Burger was appointed to Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
• In May 2009, California officials reported that the Obama White House had given SEIU an unprecedented degree of influence in the negotiations over federal stimulus funds.
• As of October 30, 2009, SEIU president Andrew Stern had visited the White House 22 times since Obama’s inauguration — more than any other individual.

Plus, they were affiliated with the now-defunct ACORN, whose members has transitioned into jobs as Obamacare Navigators.

• Between 2005 and 2008, SEIU spent $9 million on ACORN training programs and organizing services.
• SEIU hired ACORN founder Wade Rathke to lead the union’s national organizing programs.
• Rathke became the chief organizer of SEIU’s New Orleans-based Local 100, an ACORN affiliate which he founded.
• SEIU’s local 880 in Chicago was first established as an offshoot of ACORN.

But, wait…the plot sickens…err…thickens.

A noteworthy affiliate of SEIU is its powerful and militant, New York City-based Local 1199, which has more than 300,000 members and is the world’s largest union local. Sixteen years after its 1932 founding, 1199 was investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee on suspicion of Communist “infiltration.” When the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) split in 1991, several officials of Local 1199 took many comrades with them into the breakaway group, the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. One of those officials, Rafael Pizarro, also went on to help establish the New Party, a socialist organization that Barack Obama would join in 1995. At a March 2007 meeting, 1199’s executive vice president Steve Kramer spoke enthusiastically about the role which CPUSA had played in building up his union.

SEIU sponsored a May Day 2011 rally in Los Angeles, where many participants displayed banners openly advocating communism.

As others have said…repeatedly…jobs at Fast Food Restaurants were never meant to be long-term positions. They were envisioned as a step on a young person’s career path, whether they moved up the ladder in the Fast Food Industry, or took a better job elsewhere.

The problem faced at present, and which these workers face, is the fact that, with the American Economy stagnant under Obama’s Economy, older adults are taking these jobs, after losing jobs they had been specifically trained for.

The answer for these workers, relies on American Individualism. It is up to these workers to better themselves. It t is also up to the Federal Government to encourage the growth of American Business, by removing the restrictive measures they have put in place, including the high Corporate Tax Rate, which discourages American Exceptionalism.

And, of course, by attempting to level the playing field, these groups, with the Obama Administration’s blessing, are encouraging Americans to be “all the same”, to rise and fall as a group, essentially to become a “New Proletariat”.

And, that is why they are not being taken seriously.

Americans have always been individualists. And, even the 47% who voted for Obama realize that $15 an hour to sling burgers is outrageous.

…And, it would raise the price of their Big Macs.
