Obama: High Gas Prices “Just Another Hardship”

Yesterday, President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) held a Re-election Campaign Rally, err, Townhall Meeting on the campus of Northern Virgina Community College in Annandale, Virginia.

He spoke to the young skulls full of mush (Thank you, Rush) about several things, including, of course, his crusade for Clean (Green) Energy:

Some folks in Washington also want to close the deficit by gutting our investments in things like clean energy or medical research or basic science. That’s not a viable choice. America has always been the world’s engine of innovation and discovery. That’s who we are. That’s how we’ve prospered. I don’t want other countries to lead in the industries of tomorrow. I want new technologies invented here in the United States. I want new solar panels and wind turbines and fuel-efficient cars and advanced batteries all to be made right here in the United States of America. I want us to invent them right here. (Applause.)

I mean, let’s just take energy as an example. Folks are out there dealing with gas at four bucks a gallon. It’s just another hardship, another burden, at a time when we’re just coming out of a recession and things are already pretty tight for folks. Now, whenever this happens, just like clockwork, you see politicians going in front of the cameras and they’ll say they’ve got a three-point plan for two-buck-a-gallon gas. (Laughter.) The truth is, the only real solution to helping families at the pump in the medium and the long term is clean energy. That’s how we’ll save families money. That’s how we’ll reduce our dependence on foreign oil. We’ve got to develop new technologies to lessen our reliance on a fuel that is finite and that we’ve got to import from other countries, including some very unstable parts of the world. And that’s why I think that cutting clean energy investments by 70 percent — 70 percent, which has been proposed by some in Congress -– would be such a mistake.

Have you ever wondered why the president pushes clean energy so hard?

Is it because he loves the planet so much?

No.

Is it because he’s powerless to do anything about high gas prices?

No.

This fellow has a lot to do with it.

Jeffrey R. Immelt is the ninth chairman of GE, a post he has held since September 7, 2001.

Mr. Immelt has held several global leadership positions since coming to GE in 1982, including roles in GE’s Plastics, Appliance, and Medical businesses. In 1989 he became an officer of GE and joined the GE Capital Board in 1997. A couple years later, in 2000, Mr. Immelt was appointed president and chairman-elect.

Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric, is one of Obama’s closest advisers.

Per ge.com:

Mr. Immelt has been named one of the “World’s Best CEOs” three times by Barron’s, and since he began serving as chief executive officer, GE has been named “America’s Most Admired Company” in a poll conducted by Fortune magazine and one of “The World’s Most Respected Companies” in polls by Barron’s and the Financial Times.

Mr. Immelt earned a B.A. degree in applied mathematics from Dartmouth College in 1978 and an M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1982. He and his wife have one daughter.

Mr. Immelt is also a member of The Business Council, and he is on the board of the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

On January 21, 2011, Obama named Immelt as the Head of his Economic Advisory Panel.

Under Immelt’s leadership, General Electric has invested very heavily in the rapidly-expanding business of Clean Energy:

For example, from forbes.com, posted 4/7/11:

GE announced Thursday that it’s planning to go big in solar panel manufacturing and will build the largest solar panel factory in the U.S., with an annual capacity of 400 megawatts of production of thin-film solar when it is up and running in 2013. GE will spend $600 million on the project.

It’s a head on challenge to First Solar (FSLR), the largest maker of solar panels made from thin layers of cadmium telluride. GE is going to manufacture the panels with the same composition of materials.

“Over the last decade, through technology investment, GE has become one of the world’s major wind turbine manufacturers, and our investment in high-tech solar products will help us continue to grow our position in the renewable energy industry,” Victor Abate, vice president of GE’s renewable energy business, said in a press release.

To jump start its efforts, GE completed its acquisition of PrimeStar Solar of Arvada, Colo. The purchase price was not disclosed, but is included in the overall $600 million figure, Abate explained in a phone interview from Colorado. GE has held an equity stake in PrimeStar since 2007, and a majority stake since 2008. The two companies have been working to boost the efficiency of the cad-tel solar panels.

And, according to cnet.com, in a post dated 7/24/10:

General Electric announced Thursday plans to invest $10 billion over the next five years in Ecomagination, the green-focused research and development program it began in 2005.

Since Ecomagination began, GE has invested a total of $5 billion in its research and development as of the end of 2009. The technology and products to come out of that program have generated $70 billion in revenue over the past five years, according to GE statistics released Thursday.

In view of that revenue success, GE has decided to double investment for the program between now and 2015. The announcement is not entirely surprising, as GE has said since 2007 that its Ecomagination initiative has been making it a healthy profit.

Dropping the price of a gallon of gas at the pump, so that Americans will not suffer so badly economically, seems to be a very low priority for President Obama.

Evidently, the word ” Green” in Green Energy is simply slang for money.

And just how much of that $$ is federal $$, tax breaks, etc?
Another example of a huge corporation angling itself with the feds to shape policy, laws, elections, etc in order to get rid of the competition.

He’ll have those Chinese factories running day and night, night and day.

I haven’t bought so much as a light bulb from GE in years. Look for their logo and starve the beast!

Hopefully this will be his Waterloo.

Nat Curl is right on the money. As an electrician, I avoid GE products at all costs. Their light bulbs are lesser quality than Chinese. their appliances are simply crap compared to Whirlpool/Kenmore and even LG and Samsung. And don’t get me started on motors. Residential loadcenters are adequate. Now I know where the money for quality control went.

Immelt is just one of the many heads of corporations enabling the obamanation in persuing his socialist agenda. Their payoff? Money. These heads of corps. are truly “useful idiots” in the obamanation’s quest…
