Thoughts for Mother’s Day: What’s Fueling “The Great American Comeback”?

“A Pew Research poll found in February that Christianity’s years-long decline in America appeared to have slowed, according to Breitbart News.

In December, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Bible sales had risen 22 percent in the United States.

Artist and influencer Cely Vazquez told the newspaper she recently bought one.

“I’ve had Bibles that my mom gave me, but I felt I needed my own to start my own journey, that it symbolized I was starting a walk with God. I felt something was missing. It’s a combination of where we are in the world, general anxiety, and the sense that meaning and comfort can be found in the Bible,” she stated.

Over the past few years, thousands of people have been flocking to Christian revival and baptism events across the nation.”Consistent with the general rise in Christian interest, Angel Studios’ animated Biblical film King of Kings smashed a box office record in April, the news coming as creator Dallas Jenkins released more installments of his highly popular the Chosen television series at theaters, according to Breitbart News.” (Courtesy Breitbart.com)

I believe that what we are witnessing with not only a return to American Christianity but also the return to Conservative Politics is a backlash to the degeneration of American society and culture.

For the last several decades, self-serving politicians, celebrities, businessmen, and educators have pushed the boundaries of morality and ethical behavior to the breaking point for their own selfish interests. These individuals were given power, which they abused, changing American culture and society, resulting in a firestorm reminiscent of what happened when Nero was handed a fiddle.

The movement of our Sovereign Nation to the Far Left of the Political Spectrum l resulted in us being on the edge of a precipice looking down into a dark abyss of annihilation.

This movement to the Political Far Left is beginning to be reversed thanks to the American people waking up and beginning to take back control of their own lives

While man is inherently a fallen creature, deep in their souls, they are searching for someone to tell them that they are worthy and that they are loved.

The Ultimate Sacrifice on the Cross, which Jesus Christ made for each and every one of us, gave all mankind hope.

And, while we all have free will, that inner spark remains within to tell us the difference between right and wrong.

The traditional values and ethics that we were taught by the traditional family unit in my generation, along with Christianity, were the anchors that built America into a great country.

The only way that we can return to the safety and the sanity of America’s greatness is to re-embrace the Salvation given to us by Jesus Christ and the love of traditional family unit.

On this Mother’s Day, we must remember the strength of our mothers and fathers.

My mother would tell me that I could be anything I wanted to be if I put my mind to it.

I believe that is true for all Americans.

As our country rises once again from decades of degradation and abuse, we must go forward in faith, truth, and light.

We have a Charge to Keep.

Happy Mother’s Day!

The Corruption of College Sports and American Society

Former UVA Basketball Coach Tony Bennett

“Tony Bennett, the renowned University of Virginia men’s basketball coach, announced his retirement on October 18, 2024, after 15 incredible seasons. During his emotional farewell press conference, Bennett candidly shared the reasons behind his decision, citing the changing landscape of college athletics, particularly with the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals and the transfer portal.

“I looked at myself and realized I’m no longer the best coach to lead this program in this current environment,” Bennett said, his voice filled with emotion. “If you’re gonna do it, you’ve gotta be all-in. If you do it half-hearted, it’s not fair to the university and those young men.” He expressed concerns about the health of college athletics, feeling that the game is not in a healthy spot.” (Courtesy Meta A1)

I’ll tell you a secret that some of my friends don’t even know. I’m no great coach like Coach Bennett, but my record as a basketball coach is 24-5. I coached a fourth grade team to their Saturday morning League Championship and I coached my church team to a park commission League Championship .

I’ve always loved basketball.

Basketball once was not a game of individuals. It was a team sport. You won and lost as a team.

No matter how good a shooter you might have on your team, sooner or later, they’re going to have a bad night.

If the only talent you had on your team was that one guy, you were out of luck. Even the great Michael Jordan came to realize that he needed supporting players beside him.

I guess I became such a big basketball fan because my student coach in 9th grade was the late great Larry Finch of Memphis State University, who went to the final game of the NCAA tournament against the great Bill Walton and the UCLA Bruins. Larry was a wonderful guy who became my friend that year. Later on, after graduating from the University of Memphis, while working at the local cable company, I was walking through the front lobby when I heard someone call my name. It was Coach Finch. He wanted to know everything I had been up to. He was a great man.

I’ve always been a college basketball fan because loyalty means a great deal to me.

I think that is what made college sports so great.

Collegiate athletes were loyal to their universities, not to whoever would pay them to play for them.

However, as the AAU got to be more commercial with sports agents hitting up on the guys and the coaches to wear certain shoes and giving them promises of a great future ahead, the college game also became more and more corrupt until now it is just a minor league for the NBA.

This is not what James Naismith meant for it to be when he put up that peach basket.

It’s funny how things become corrupt over time if those who are in charge don’t have a strong backbone. Or, they have a strong faith that compels them to do what is right.

I guess what is happening in college sports is a symptom of what has happened to our American culture and society as a whole.

There have been Americans who have moved away from what is good, just, and true.

Things such as a good work ethic, respect, loyalty, and patriotism are not considered strong character traits anymore by those who consider themselves arbiters of what is best in American society.

There needs to be a return to these values in America. Otherwise, we will be tossed in  the dustbin of history.

Kudos to Coach Bennett for what he said.

I wish there were more like him.

Veterans Day 2023 and the “No Greater Love” of Our Brightest and Best

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13

D-Day, also called the Battle of Normandy, was fought on June 6, 1944, between the Allied nations and German forces occupying Western Europe. To this day, over 79 years later, it  still remains the largest seaborne invasion in history. Almost three million troops crossed the English Channel from England to Normandy to be used as human cannon fodder in an invasion of occupied France.

Among the young men who stepped off those boats, in a hail of gunfire, was a fellow named Edward, whom everyone called Ned, from the small town of Helena, Arkansas.  Already in his young life, Ned had been forced to drop out of school in the sixth grade, in order to work at the local movie theatre to help support his mother, brother, and sister, faced with the ravages of the Great Depression.

He was a gentle man who loved to laugh and sing, having recorded several 78 rpm records in the do-it-yourself booths of the day. And now, he found himself, a Master Sergeant in an Army Engineering Unit, stepping off a boat into the unknown, watching his comrades being mercilessly gunned down around him.

Ned, along with the rest of his unit who survived the initial assault, would go on to assist in the cleaning out of the Concentration Camps, bearing witness to man’s inhumanity to man.

The horrors he saw had a profound effect on Ned.  One which he would keep to himself for the remainder of his life.  While his children knew that he served with an Engineering Unit in World War II, they did not know the full extent of his service, until they found his medal, honoring his participation in the Invasion of Normandy, going through his belongings, after he passed away on December 29, 1997.

That brave American Hero was my Daddy.

On a night in 1966, I was 7 years old, laying on my family’s den couch in Memphis, TN, watching my favorite TV Series “Batman” with a fever of 105, brought about by a severe bronchial infection. Tending to me were 3 veterans of World War II: my Daddy, my Uncle “R” (Robert), US Air Force, and my Uncle Perriman, a full-blooded Indian from Albuquerque, who was an Army Corpsman.

Those three veterans, now all gone, took turns putting cold wash cloths under my arms and on my forehead, until my fever finally broke, sometime during the night.

Today being Veterans Day, I find myself thinking about my Daddy,

While watching TV and perusing through Facebook Political Pages a few years back, I stumbled upon a meme that, as a Christian American, having been led to Christ by my Daddy, almost made me lose my witness.

This special individual had a posted a painting of Adolph Hitler in full Nazi Uniform, with the graphic

HOW MANY LIKES CAN THIS WWII VETERAN GET?

Needless to say, I let young “Skillet” know how I felt about his attempt to be “conversational”.

He suggested that I was “triggered”.

I replied that “This isn’t about being triggered. It’s about the difference between right and wrong.”

Please allow me to elaborate…

There has been a question gnawing at me for quite a while now, ever since all of the Astroturf National Protests featuring the Women’s Marches, the School Walkouts for Gun Control, illegal aliens, and millennials in desperate need of a “safe space” dressed in black hoods calling themselves “Antifa” started greeting average Americans like you and me when we turned on the television to watch the news, the Soviet-style “Impeachment Inquiry” held by the Democrats to overturn the results of the 2016 President Election, the widespread voter fraud by the Far Left Democratic Party to steal the 2020 Presidential Election, and now, these clearly funded and organized pro-Palestinian protests in major cities all over the country.

If America was led by the likes of Modern American Liberals during the frightening days when Hitler rose to power after the Beer Hall Putsch and that faithful day of December 7, 1941, “a day which will live in infamy”, while at the same time the young Americans of that era were the millennials of today, would America have stood up the Axis of Evil?

Would the millennials that we are watching throwing hissy fits and railing against Israel and traditional American Faith and Values on the Evening News and the Social Media have the guts to do what the Greatest Generation did?

Would Modern American Liberals be willing to make the sacrifices that my Daddy and Mother and the rest of their generation did?

I seriously doubt it.

There wouldn’t be long lines at the Armed Forces Recruitment Office trying to sign up to serve their country.

Heck, these days it is hard to get them to move out of their parents’ house, much less be willing to fight and die for their country.

There are those millennials out there who would rather defecate on our flag than to die for it.

And, while they talk a good game about being “Stronger Together”, when the rubber meets the road, it’s every man (or woman) for themselves.

Instead of the Greatest Generation, we are presently having to deal with the selfish “Generation Snowflake”.

It’s like watching an angry child in their Mom’s shopping cart at Walmart.

There are no absolutes with them.

A lot of them simply have no “attitude of gratitude” and no sense of the blessings which they have received simply by being born in America.

Nor do they seem to understand where this freedom which they flaunt comes from and how much American Blood was spilled so that they might act like ungrateful, ill-mannered brats on Social Media.

And, when I think about it, that is why it was such a shock to them that the rest of us voted against their vision of America on November 8th, 2016. In fact, it was such a shock to these culturally hip Americans that they have been throwing a National Temper Tantrum over Donald J. Trump, ever since, even to the point of trying to keep him out of the 2024 Presidential Election by means of Political Lawfare.

Proverbs 22:6 advises us to

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

What the disrespectful members of this generation continue to demonstrate on a daily basis is the fact that they did not have a “Board of Education” applied to their “seat of Knowledge” when the situation called for it.

“Triggered”? I guess I still am…

Because my Daddy and Mother raised me in the way I should go.

Today and every day, may God bless our Veterans and may we, as grateful Americans, always honor them for their service.

Until He Comes,

The Battle for the Soul of America

My late mother used to tell me that I had a long fuse which led to a box of dynamite.

She was right.

Yesterday, I had had all I could stand of Joe Biden trying to push gun control and take away our 2nd Amendment Rights as Americans.

So, I replied to him on Twitter.

It did not make me feel any better, but it did trigger a realization or two.

This Cultural Jihad against our Traditional American Faith and Values, which the Democrats are waging on our country, can be traced all the way back to the years after World War II, when Marxists tried to infiltrate Hawaii, Hollywood, and our nation’s capital.

They were driven back but, like a coiled rattlesnake hiding in some brush waiting to strike, they bided their time, working behind the scenes in the Democratic Party.

When Lyndon Baines Johnson was installed as President after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Democratic Party began accelerating its slow but steady movement to the Far Left of the Political Spectrum.

They began their Cultural Jihad against the traditional faith and values of Americans by starting social programs which they claimed were necessary to raise people out of poverty.

In reality, these programs replaced the Traditional Family Unit with a “benevolent” and massive central government which working Americans now know of unaffectionately as “Uncle Sugar”.

Over the decades, these types of programs and this ongoing mission to “radically change” our country by the Far Left, has resulted in the propagandizing of our school system and the acceptance and glorification of behaviors which, when I was in college in the late 1970s, were deemed as deviant, according to a College Sociology Course I took.

In the ensuing decades, all of the things which had made America great, especially Christianity and Patriotism, were deemed as narrow-minded, bigoted, and somehow, oppressive by Far Left Politicians and “Experts”.

Now, we are witnessing Joe Biden and the Far Left Democrats attempt to take our tools of personal and family defense away from us as we witness the America we love being mercilessly attacked and destroyed in front of our very eyes.

So, here we are living in a world that reminds us of Bizarro World in the Superman comic books we used to read as children before they became propaganda literature published by the Far Left.

Make no mistake, this is not about a battle between political parties anymore, this is a battle between Good and Evil.

This is a battle for the soul of America.

If you think that we are not in a battle for the soul of our country, then why do you think they are calling us “Christian Nationalists”?

Until He Comes,

KJ
