Well, we finally made it to Saturday. Here’s your quick thought for today: Per Breitbart News …
“Today we are reducing the size of our workforce, and employees who are affected will be notified by the end of the day,” reads a memo released Friday from CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and CBS News president Tom Cibrowski.
“It’s no secret that the news business is changing radically, and that we need to change along with it. New audiences are burgeoning in new places, and we are pressing forward with ambitious plans to grow and invest so that we can be there for them,” the memo adds. “That means some parts of our newsroom must get smaller to make room for the things we must build to remain competitive.”
The layoffs will completely cut the staff of CBS radio news. What is significant about this is that CBS News has been around for 100 years and was the home to Edward R Murrow and his legendary coverage of World War II.
They are laying off and buying out 15% of their employees.
The parent company of CBS, Paramount, was sold to Skydance Media. Skydance Media has a more middle of the road political viewpoint than Paramount and as good businessmen they want CBS News to be watched and listened to by more Americans than just Far Left Democrats.
While I am sure that both viewers of their Nightly News truly enjoy their current product, the name of the game is Advertiser Dollars. If the viewership numbers are garbage, advertisers are not getting their money’s worth from their investment.
As a former College Radio News Director who had the opportunity to report the murder of John Lennon and the Iranian Hostage Crisis, I am sad to see CBS Radio News go down the ol’ porcelain receptacle so bad that they had to be flushed.
However, it’s like the old saying goes, “Money talks and BS walks”.
Until He Comes,
